'That is not who we are': Some Republicans break with Trump over Iran threats

Source: ABC News

April 7, 2026, 5:08 PM

With hours until President Donald Trump's self-imposed Tuesday night deadline for Iran to make a deal or face U.S. attacks, lawmakers are reacting to the president's latest threats and wipe out a "whole civilization" -- with some Republicans speaking out against Trump's words.

Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson broke with Trump on his threats to bomb Iran's civilian infrastructure, saying in a podcast, "I hope and pray" he is "using this as bluster."

"I do not want to see us start blowing up civilian infrastructure ... We are not at war with the Iranian people. We are trying to liberate them," Johnson, a Trump ally who rarely breaks with the president, said on the "John Solomon Reports" podcast out on Monday.

Texas Republican Rep. Nathaniel Moran said in a post on X that he does not support "the destruction of a 'whole civilization'" -- a reference to Trump's social media post on Tuesday in which he threatened that a "whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again" although he said "I don't want that to happen.". "That is not who we are, and it is not consistent with the principles that have long guided America," Moran wrote.

It's EXACTLY who you fuckers are and how you manage to look in the mirror every day and not recoil from your own evil visage, is beyond explanation.

their stock portfolios like the income. And they always personally benefit from the tax cuts. Despite all the pain and suffering that Reagans tax cuts cause and no one ever brings that up.

Have to ban personal, private and corporate money from elections.

He has clearly pointed out to anyone around the globe with half a brain:

1. Voting is important and has consequences. Consider your vote carefully.

2. A madman shouldn't be POTUS.

3. Global diplomacy is done with words, not weapons. With intelligence, not things that go BOOM!

4. Being a loudmouthed bully only gets you so far.

5. Republicans suck.

You are responsible for every bad thing that happens in this country !!!!!!!!

You hate this country and you are trying to change it !!!!!!!!!!

You are warmongering liars and cons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You never vote for anything that helps the majority of people in this country.

You align yourself with Christian Nationalists.

You align yourself with people who hate democracy.

You align yourself with the KKK, Proud Boys, and all other white supremacists groups.

You align yourself with people who want to take the rights away from women.

You align yourself with people who don't believe in science and facts.

You bow down to the rich and shaft the masses.

I can not name one good or decent thing you have done since November 4th, 1970.

It has been all down hill for the people of this country since that date !!!!!!!!!

You shouldn't be allowed to live in this country because you hate it and you are deliberately
trying to destroy it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be grateful I am not in charge of deportations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This past weekend, the deranged juvenile delinquent currently soiling the Oval Office, Capitol Hill, America’s Constitution and the country itself proved beyond any doubt that he could very soon escalate to NUCLEAR threats– if Iran continues to fight back against his unapproved personal war. Trump must GO. Before impeachment, though, it might be more effective for Democrats to (1) Ask VP Vance and Trump’s Cabinet members to sign a “Formal Intention of 25th-Amendment Removal,” (2) Launch that process if enough people comply, or (3) If too many decline, proceed to impeach-- in a single class action--   “Trump, Vance, and all Cabinet members who refuse to remove Trump despite his proven, overwhelming unfitness to remain in office. To remove those who refuse to do their Constitutionally mandated jobs.”   This would be (adapting Trump's favorite hyperbole)  a shot "unlike anything the world has ever seen” across his corrupt Administration’s bow.   It would, at the very least, strongly remind Capitol Hill that Justice is on the way. Regardless of how many patriotic Americans Trump's criminal Administration jails or how many future elections they try to steal, Justice is coming. [Oh, and we must keep demanding the rest of the Epstein Files in BIG BOLD TEXT!]
