Pentagon asks Congress to codify 'Department of War' with $52 million price tag

Source: The Hill

The Pentagon has asked Congress to codify its “Department of War” renaming, saying it will cost nearly $52 million to complete and will not have a “significant impact” on President Trump’s fiscal 2027 defense budget request.

The Defense Department said the “actual costs are being collected during implementation and will be available after” the current fiscal year’s execution of the name change is done.

The Pentagon, in its legislative proposal, said nearly $52 million is set to be spent, with around $3.5 million for the military department, $3 million for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office and Washington Headquarters Services, $400,000 for the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands and National and the largest share of $44.6 million for the Defense Agencies and department’s field activities

“The revision to the designation of the Department serves as a fundamental reminder of the importance and reverence of our core mission, to fight and win wars,” Defense officials wrote in the 92-page proposal. ” It serves as a strategic objective in which to measure and prioritize all activities.”

Let's debate whether or not we should have a department of war. Look how well that's worked out so far.

I was much happier with Defense in the name. If the people in charge don't like it, they should walk away and
get out of government and the military.

Oh god. Make calls. No f-ing ballroom. And the DOD must stay the DOD.

I don't actually care what it costs because if they change it to DOW we MUST change it back to DOD -- and happily pay to do so.

WORDS MATTER.

We are a nation with a military that serves our National Defense.

The War on Iran is a CRIME. From the outset, it violates international law and our own DOD Law of War Manual.

The mentality behind renaming DOD to DOW is the mentality of WAR CRIMINALS. It is the mentality of a crazy person who says "no stupid rules of engagement," tossing out the ENTIRE Law of War Manual with one sentence.

Department of War Crimes

“Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me,” Trump told the The New York Times on Wednesday night when asked if there were any limits on his international power.

https://thehill.com/policy/international/5680714-trump-morality-international-law/

This simple quote should have been enough to impeach, convict and remove him from office. Treaties? Fuck 'em. International law? Don't bother me. Balance of power? Nonsense. Uphold the Constitution? Nah, never read it.

The only thing worse than the orange anus is the weakling GOP that refuses to stand up to this demented tyrant.

I'm in Western Washington, so I just make calls to my Rep. and Senators to make sure I'm offsetting MAGA callers that are probably pestering them (the Senators anyway) from Eastern Washington.

But if I were in a Red State I'd be drumming up groups of friends and neighbors to meet with our electeds and lobby heavily against the DOW insanity and ballroom insanity. The phones at local and DC offices should be ringing with a resounding NO WAY from the public on both the ballroom and the name change -- and I suspect they will try to jam them together into one bill. I don't know how they'll manage it within the rules, but you can bet they'll try to do this shit through reconciliation. (Not to mention lobbying against their plans to push through ICE funding, and lobbying to repeal the tax cuts on households that make over 300,000, and lobbying against the insane Iran war package, lobbying to restore WIC and SNAP and Medicaid and enhanced obamacare subsidies... so much to work to undo or stop.)

by changing everything now and keeping track of how much it's costing (also breaking the law) and want congress to then pass a law saying they didn't break two laws and refund the department the money they spent breaking the law.
