JACKSON, Miss.
All but one of Jackson's 12 fixed-route JTRAN buses are in operation amid a strike, according to city officials.
In a statement Wednesday, Mayor John Horhn said the city is working with MV Transit to maintain bus service for residents, including all paratransit trips for elderly and disabled riders. Download the JTRAN app or go to the JTRAN website for bus route updates.
"My commitment is to the citizens of Jackson who depend on the city to provide reliable transportation service," Horhn said. "We will continue to ensure that well-qualified, professional drivers are operating our buses and serving the best interests of the consuming public."
Dozens of JTRAN employees walked off the job Monday after they said no agreement was reached with MV Transportation and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1208. The union, which represents about 70 JTRAN workers, is fighting for better pay and working conditions before renewing a three-year contract with MV Transportation, which runs the city's bus system.
