Trump ignores Congress as he pours granite over White House lawn: report

President Donald Trump is ignoring Congress, zoning laws and airspace regulations as he pours granite over a White House lawn to build himself a helipad, the New York Times reported Thursday morning.
The unusually speedy work on the black-granite helipad is going down on the South Lawn where children traditionally gather for the White House Easter Egg Roll in the spring, the Times reported.
"Such projects usually require a developer to navigate a complex web of zoning laws, airspace regulations and environmental impact studies, while negotiating with town councils and fighting off community pushback," the Times reported. "But Mr. Trump has encountered no such difficulties as he quickly proceeds with construction of a black granite helipad on the South Lawn. He has not asked Congress or any review panel, such as the Commission of Fine Arts, to approve the project."
Trump has shrugged off the traditional step of engaging Congress as he did with his 90,000-square-foot ballroom now facing a slew of legal challenges, the Times reported. A White House spokesman told the New York Times in an email that operational upgrades to the White House grounds, such as the helipad installation, do not require commission reviews.

(841 posts)Trump still has to walk from the door to his helicopter, (100 feet?). Can he do that? Maybe put in a conveyance, a small "ski lift" to whisk him into his passenger seat.

(20,936 posts)Its a aggregate in some kind of matrix like maybe epoxy but theres no way they had epoxy hundreds of years ago.
It lasts man and its beautiful.
So theres no way hes using that
mopinko
(74,358 posts)tho these days they do use epoxies. remarkably durable stuff.
they pour it, then grind down the surface to expose and polish the stones.
still used in institutional settings, like schools, hospitals, govt bldgs. occasionally see it in homes.

This guy doesn't think he needs permission or approval for anything he wants to do, even if its illegal. He's already torn the hell out of the White House lawn, and he got by with it.

I'm getting tired of seeking petty crooks beat up over their crimes, while this guy completely defiles everything that's holy and totally ignores laws the rest of us have to abide by, even if we don't agree with them. That Angel of Death ain't coming fast enough!!!

(37,755 posts)That's where the grass is. If the chopper idles for long, I assume it would also damage the soil under the grass making regrowth difficult.
Might also make it harder for his tootsies to get if the lawn has otherwise 'non-presidential,' improper drainage.

Please excuse if these are really dumb questions. I have not had coffee yet.
