North Carolina is on the verge of getting a MAGA governor. Why do we let this happen?
(USA Today) Theres a type of person who thrives off of angering people online. They are commonly referred to as a troll, someone who likes being provocative to get a rise out of netizens who come across the post.
Donald Trump proved in 2016 that being a troll can win you an election and now is proving it can get you a second presidential nomination.
In North Carolina, my home state, there are two trolls on the ballot this year. Trump, whom you've heard of, and another who hopes to one day be just as famous.
There has been a lot of recent coverage of North Carolina Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, now a gubernatorial candidate. Earlier this week, The Washington Post wrote about Robinsons Facebook posts defending abusers like Harvey Weinstein.

(8,811 posts)Usually it is a combination of these.
1 the Majority of your neighbors agree with the MAGA message and go out and vote
2 a majority of your neighbors dont agree but are too lazy to get off their ass and vote
3 we have either a shitty candidate or a shitty message
4 we have a good candidate or message and we dont do a good job of defining the candidate or message.

(3,456 posts)Certainly true that the Dems need to field good candidates and have pointed and effective messaging. But, I firmly believe that so many GOP leaning voters are one issue voters-- I will never vote for Dem, Guns, God, Anti-abortion, Anti LGBTQ+, small government, lower taxes....pick it and however much on the whole the Dem worldview would lead to a better future for their kids and grandkids, they will vote for whatever trash the GOP runs based on that one issue stance.
