MCLAUGHLIN: Jenna McLaughlin - nice to meet you.
I wanted to talk to Dr. Jung Pak, the deputy assistant secretary of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, to get to the bottom of a crazy story. The State Department first put out an advisory about IT workers from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, or DPRK for short, infiltrating top U.S. companies back in 2022. Now they're offering up to $5 million for information on the sprawling operation. Dr. Pak is a former CIA analyst. She literally wrote the book on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. (36,485 posts)4. I do that every time I can't find something made in the US
and all the decent options are made in China.
The only thing I get from Russia are books--and even then, if it's a classic, often there's a Ukrainian source. The Brooklyn-based bookstore I order from took a real hit to sales after 1/2022 and adapted by finding Ukrainian sources ... With the inevitable supply-chain issues.
We are paying China to destroy us.
I have had only one very limited business transaction with Russia.
They do some advanced YDNA work, it is the only place for that particular kind of work.
They work on building parts of the very complicated YDNA haplogroup trees.
I hated having to send them any money but I had no choice if I wanted the work done.
