Biden's challenge: Will he ever satisfy the media's appetite for questions about his ability?
NEW YORK (AP) Toward the end of his closely watched news conference Thursday night on the sidelines of the NATO summit, President Joe Biden was talking about being examined by doctors for his mental acuity. Suddenly, a little frustration slipped through.
No matter what I did, he said, no ones going to be satisfied.
Thats the challenge Biden faced during his meeting with American and international reporters, two weeks after a poor debate performance ignited calls for him to step aside and let another candidate take up the Democratic campaign against former president Donald Trump.
Biden was animated at times, particularly during an opening statement when he spoke about the importance of the NATO alliance and delivered a defense of his presidency on issues of the economy and the border with Mexico. He relished an opportunity to talk about the nations relations with China and where that might go.

(1,502 posts)The polls change, and even then criticism will just be muted. To some degree I agree. He did say something about the campaign hasnt really started. With that poor excuse for a carbon based life form thats a dangerous strategy.
What did Professor Lichtman say recently?
Republicans have no principles and democrats have no spine.

In the "old days" (in quotes), they used to fill the air time with "re-runs" of popular TV shows. 24/7 news didn't exist. It was the "slow" time of year.
Ironically, the movie industry could take advantage of this by having popular film releases occur at the start of and during the summer, in order to capture the populace who were tuning out of "news" and wanting a one-off shared-audience "experience" when going to the movies.
This is why the ratings outfits like Nielsen focus their "peak" quarterly periods on February (to set advertising rates for the fall) and September (the original "traditional" start of a new broadcast "season" ). The broadcasters would then program around those "peak" viewership months (which is why you see things like the Super Bowl aired at that time, with the NFL season strung along to push it into the "peak month" of February). Similarly, the World Series comes into October, in the middle of the new "fall season".
But because there are now thousands of broadcast, cable, satellite, and streaming stations all competing for eyeballs and financial support, you eventually end up with hysterics-as-content in order to gain and retain market share. However the result of so much "choice" often results in increasingly diminishing returns.

(7,785 posts)*"Bidenesque": A speaking style in which unasked but necessary questions are answered in great detail. Regardless of irregular cadence and often sprinkled with confusing emphasis on terms, complex facts are delivered on multiple levels simultaneously. Usually, best appreciated in the form of transcript. Regarding casual narrative, pronouns are often cast as interchangeable and personal identities and events are predictably "at large" (see transcript).
Not to be confused with "Reaganesque", wherein the delivery of the speaker's message is plainly "straight talk" while devoid of importance and reliably nonfactual.
Biden's closing reply when a reporter asked how best to respond to Trump's citing of Biden's confused rhetoric was "listen to him". Pretty damn sharp if you ask me.
