Rise of Harris roils Senate battleground races

Unfortunately, we know the RW media is going to push hard on these issues also.

Rise of Harris roils Senate battleground races

President Biden’s decision to drop his reelection bid and Vice President Harris’s emergence as the front-runner for the Democratic nomination has vulnerable Senate Democrats scrambling to fend off new GOP attacks on her record.

Biden’s biggest vulnerability was his age and doubts about his fitness for office, but the silver lining for Democrats was that Biden’s biggest problems were confined to him as a candidate and did not substantially impact Democratic senators downballot, according to polls.

But now incumbents such as Sens. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) are being pressed on Harris’s most controversial policy statements, stretching back to the 2020 Democratic primary.
........

Democrats don’t know for sure whether Harris as their nominee for president will drive minority and young voters to the polls in significantly higher numbers than Biden would have in November. But they are generally optimistic about her having an energizing effect on the party, pointing out that she raised $81 million during her first 24 hours as a candidate after Biden dropped out of the race.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) circulated a memo to Senate Republican campaigns Monday highlighting controversial elements in Harris’s record, ranging from immigration and border policy, to “Medicare for All” and opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline and fracking.

Why should all Democratic senators have to explain, defend, or even agree with the presidential nominee? Did they ask the same questions when Biden was the presumptive? This reeks of shit-stirring.

There is a RW bias, but they have a surprisingly good code of journalistic ethics in comparison to others like the NYT and WaPo. I usually follow it primarily to get the least hysterical RW viewpoints.

while Casey and Brown are comfortably ahead, if you believe all the polls up to this point, and though I don't, I think their internal polling also shows them what they need to know.

Turnout will be the difference. Will Harris have long coattails? It appears so. More Democrats and independents coming the polls to vote for the Democrat at the top of the ticket means the other boats rise with the tide.

With the exception of Montana, where politics are often inexplicable, the others are running in states where the biggest issues are support for women's reproductive rights, control of assault weapons with no purpose except to commit murder, and a growing awareness and fear of the draconian nature of Project 2025, and the implications of empowering the Heritage Foundation's Christian nationalism agenda. Medicare for all, and health insurance access are also big issues on which Republicans lose. We may be surprised at where we get additional senators for the next six years, based on that pesky polling data. Take a look and take a guess.
