Washington U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan has made public a
key filing from special counsel Jack Smith that includes evidence compiled in his investigation into former President Donald Trump's alleged efforts to subvert the transfer of presidential power after the 2020 election.
Smith submitted the highly anticipated
165-page filing under seal to Chutkan last week as part of additional proceedings taking place following the Supreme Court's decision on presidential immunity earlier this summer.
Chutkan gave Trump and his legal team until Tuesday to respond to the special counsel's request to make the brief public, with redactions. While the former president opposed Smith's bid to file the document publicly, she granted Smith's request to do so and ordered it to be made available on the public docket.
