Why the Republicans are probably toast this November
On the evening of November 4th, 2025, the national headlines focused on Democrats sweeping the gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey and Proposition 50 (Gavin Newsoms Election Rigging Response Act) passing in California, allowing the state to redistrict its congressional districts to favor the Democrats.
But there was good news for the Democrats across America that evening. Democrats ended Republicans supermajority in the Mississippi state legislature. Democrats won all statewide judicial races in Pennsylvania. Democrats won two statewide elections for the Georgia Public Service Commission in epic landslides. In Washington, the Democrats held onto two state legislative races the party was concerned about.
These wins were not an aberration. For instance, earlier in the year, the Democrats flipped two Trump‑y legislative districts in Iowa, won a high-profile judicial race in Wisconsin and flipped mayoral seats in Omaha, Fairbanks, AK, Roswell, GA and Aurora, IL.
Since November, the Democrats have flipped the mayoral office in Miami and overperformed Kamala Harris margin by thirteen points in a Tennessee congressional race. Even more recently, on December 30th, a Democratic Iowa legislative candidate outperformed Harris by nearly thirty points.
