Related: About this forum'They're obsessed': Dr. Fauci on death threats, 'lab leak,' and vaccine safety - Mehdi Hasan - MSNBC
In 2020, Dr. Anthony Fauci became a household name, becoming in many ways the face of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. But while many saw him as a hero, he also faced a far-right backlash when his assessments contradicted the message of President Trump and other GOP politicians.
Now retired from government, Dr. Fauci joins Mehdi to reflect on his handling of the crisis, discuss the threat of a new COVID-19 surge, and respond to attacks from the GOP. - 09/21/2023.

(1,456 posts)1. This nation will NEVER be able to repay the debt it owes to Tony Fauci.
In a previous career, I worked for the United States Public Health Service (PHS). I worked in HIV/AIDS. We called it trench warfare. There were many MDs and PhD scientists and researchers on the front lines of this plague, working their best years to get a handle on HIV/AIDS. No one worked harder, longer or with more passion.
I actually knew Tony Fauci back in the late 80s/early 90s. His dedication as a public servent for serving this nation and attempting to preserve the public's health is something that would take volumes to document. He was NEVER political. Viruses don't have party affiliation or religion or race or gender or ideology or fairness. For many of us, Tony was a beacon - he never gave up, never flagged, never ever relented. Let me tell you - working in those (Reagan) years of HIV/AIDS was a climate of HUGE burn out. So many friends, co-workers, peers, colleagues lost in the prime of their lives.
But Doctor Anthony Fauci was like a talisman we all shared. When I hear low IQ, low-information, low-education, vapid, shallow, glib scumbags criticize him (or worse) it makes my blood boil. Tony walked the walk of this nation and all of us in the various fields fighting this pandemic (and its ugly prejudice) get through those years with dedication, compassion and conviction.
The man is a national treasure.

(222,474 posts)2. Wow! Thanks so much!
I certainly admire him - and I have listened to him since the beginning. It sends me over the edge that those who support TFG listened to him rather than to this incredible expert - who has worked under seven presidents, if I remember correctly - but it took only one ignorant inept authoritarian to discredit him in the eyes of his "followers" - and how many of them died as a result???

be charged with making terroristic threats and indicted? Enough already.
