The straw that breaks the camel's back? SCOTUS scandal widens with new Thomas report - Deadline

ProPublica reporter Justin Elliott, legal correspondent and senior editor for Slate Dahlia Lithwick and executive director of the nonpartisan judicial watchdog Fix the Court, Gabe Roth join Nicolle Wallace to discuss new reporting from ProPublica which says Justice Clarence Thomas has attended at least two Koch donor summits, according to interviews with three former employees of the group and one major donor, "putting him in the extraordinary position of having helped a political network that has brought multiple cases before the Supreme Court." - Aired on 09/22/2023.

One good thing about the Menendez scandal is that the alleged bribes look very similar to the SCOTUS scandal.

Clarence will be there until he retires or dies.

He has the power he’ll never give up!

6. Yes, but there may be a point at which Roberts (or the donors) decides to pressure him

And maybe Alito to “retire.” They may tire of the bad press. One can hope…

Get change made. I think he’s trying to create public sentiment against this behavior.

5. David Koch was worth 31 billion dollars in 2012

He whined in an interview with Newsmax magazine that year that government regulations put a horrible burden on corporations. I repeat he was worth 31 billion dollars in 2012.

He died in 2019 but his brother Charles is still breathing.

Interesting, the Koch’s and Donald trump all inherited money from their fathers Fred.

And I read that the Koch organization is now busy in Canada as well.

Those inheriting millions of dollars decide it’s so much fun being a libertarian. I find libertarians to be more a danger to democracy than republicans.

Big advocates of private profit, public loss while railing about “liberty.” Like todays auto manufacturers.

11. Though the difference with TFG is that he is now desperate for money

He's always been since every business he ever started failed badly and he was desperate enough that he sold his father's lucrative business at a loss - and he attempted to disinherit his remaining siblings until his mother found out. I have always believed that the only reason he decided to "campaign" was because he figured grifting campaign donations was an easy way to get money. And it was the one "business" that worked for him so he's unwilling to give it up - he continued to hold campaign rallies even while he was in office.
