About broadcast networks.
We do not have the legislative framework to deal with broadcasters who use there mega phone to cause nothing but tension and chaos because when things are working as they are supposed to the world is boring but that does not sell "breaking news" or provided the "drama" TV needs.
I always laugh at these reality shows where they have to inject drama/tension every few minutes by going on about how they are so pressed time or this has to be done now or some other method to increase the drama. What you are seeing in networks that put on so called "news" shows is the same thing. Only they can't get Biden to give them a sound byte asking "Will i live long enough for a 2nd term." They fan the flames with bullshit speculation that has played right into the gop ever since 9/11.
Not only did 9/11 change this country irrevocably it also destroyed any vestige of real news we had left. The $$$ made off 9/11 was intoxicating for the networks when they saw the viewer #'s and web site clicks they lost all objectivity IMO. They no longer wait for a disaster to bump up their ratings and quarterly bottom line they are actively fomenting it for... you guessed it.... a dollar.
Legislation needs to be updated to respond to this. There should be a group that does nothing but monitor what is broadcast and anytime a network lies it should be an automatic $1,000,000 fine. If you ever saw Demolition Man in the 90's there was a system in the movie that each time Stallone cussed he was fine by an autonomous voice...I thought the concept was hilarious, if only we could have that for the networks.
The size of the fine could be determined by just how egregious the lie is. If they show a congress person on a monitor who is GOP but put a "D" not the "R" as it should be by their name it's $500,000 fine automatically. They did this repeatedly w/ Mark Foley the goper who was in charge of the committee dealing with child sex abuse while sending porno txt's to underage congressional pages and that other idiot Sanford Gov. of SC who got caught cheating on his wife w/ a lady from South America but said he was hiking the Appalachian Trial... every time his face showed on a monitor it had a "D" next to it.
So then lying about a deadly virus. Calling it a HOAX while it is killing 1000's of American daily would certainly get a seat in Huntsville to await an injection... of disinfectant...maybe?
For the last 20 year the gop has been killing Americans in unfathomable numbers...yet we still give them legitimacy, credibility and allow them to actually be in charge once in a while as we did from 2016-2020 when they killed over 1 million Americans. The GOP has done far more damage and spilled more American blood in this country then UBL or any terrorist organization ever, for more damage than any war has ever done and far more damage than the Spanish Flu and remember the Spanish Flu was in 1918 our healthcare system was not even in its infancy it was non-existent back then yet still less died to Spanish Flu then COVID.
COVID was the single biggest death event this country has ever had and we still refer to DT, McCarthy, McConnell Greene, Boebert, Gosar, Biggs, Jordan... etc, etc them using terms like former president, speaker of house, the honorable congress person from X... when after all of this all that should be left of them by now is a booking photo w/ an inmate # or a headstone.
"Yes"- a group to monitor broadcasters and hold them accountable for there content would be good....... oh wait there is one called the FCC... knock, knock anyone home?
