(23,424 posts)initiating another suit that makes the court happy. The 14th doesn't say that the malefactor has to have been so judged by a court. No one even considered it necessary to put all the members of the Confederacy on trial. They supported revolution, so that was it. I could wring the necks of the secret service men who prevented tfg from going to the Capitol. His presence would have been enough to remove all doubt that he's an insurrectionist. I guess no state wants to antagonize their GOP voters. Every state should run a PR campaign so the public understands that the constitution forbids his running...
or at least serving. Talk about irony!!! The GOP tried to get SCOTUS to declare that legislators had the right to decide the winners instead of the voters. Now it is the Constitution that has the right to eliminate a GOP candidate!!!

(222,238 posts)And you're right about January 6th, though there are clearly witnesses to his glee over what was happening and his refusal to take action which could have saved lives. And I'm also for an effort to educate the public, too many aren't paying the least attention though our future is in peril. Both Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis lost their citizenship for their lifetimes, those who tried to overturn the government on January 6th should suffer the same fate - and that includes TFG.

(222,238 posts)However, both men who participated in the Confederacy did regain their citizenship in the 1970s, long after their lifetimes, due to Congressional resolutions. Senator Harry Byrd introduced the one for Robert E. Lee and it was eventually passed and signed by President Ford in 1975.
