(8,819 posts)There are so many awful, violent males out there. Something is wrong with a significant percentage of men.

I know, they will probably delete this for being too violent, but I believe it might work. At least they couldnt do it again.

(2,779 posts)I don't have daughters. I know if I did I would have been a tough first-meeting-Dad with her date. But I really think that rape, under any circumstances, is a crime at least equal to murder, and I wish it were possible for American law to permit the victim or her father -- or any appropriate surrogate (an uncle, a family friend, a boyfriend) -- to determine the method of execution.

?
It seems to be a rhyme of honor killing thinking, that its the job of the men to protect the honir of the female relatives.

(2,779 posts)Just an honest laying out of my feelings, my perspective. I did not -- read it again and you'll see -- say that "only men" should be involved in determining the punishment of rapists.
Yet, 'spite of that fact, I stand accused of . . .what? Misogyny, certainly. But also, curiously, radical-muslim misogyny. (It is not completely beside the point to mention that under the rules of honor killing, at least as I've read in the Western media, it is very likely that, in a case such as this, the family would have murdered the girl, regardless whether her rapists were caught.)
What I'm saying is that you are wrong and have simply -- and prejudicially -- attacked my comment for something that is nowhere apparent in it.

(8,819 posts)How patriarchal and fucked up is that world view?! Women are not possessions of men!
Also, there are plenty of single women and lesbians who get raped, as well as daughters of absent and abusive fathers, etc. who often get raped by the very same males or other male family members.

(2,779 posts)The world view you depict in your screed is not my world view. I have been in this often ugly world for enough years to know exactly the hatefulness, the filthy ignorance of that world view. It is the world view of everything that any decent person despises. It is not my world view.
If you knew anything at all about me, you would never have drawn such a disgusting inference from my comment. If you were in a rational frame of mind, you would not have made such a grossly wrong inference.
Simply pit, what I said was an accurate description of my personal feelings regarding the violent double rape of a young woman (rape is violent by its very nature). It was not in any way intended to be a universal statement. It was about my feelings, my reaction to this horrible crime.
And I offer no apology for it.
