I saw a post about JROTC, which made curious.
How many people have multiple generations that served in the military.
Doesnt have to be consecutively.

(4,613 posts)So is my spouse. We were both officers and now are hitting retirement age.
Multiple generations of military service-
My Dad was a 2-year draftee during Korea.
My Grandfather was in WWI in France.
Great Grandfather rode in the Indian Wars and was a blacksmith.
His grandfather was a Captain in the War of 1812, at the Battke of Fort Meigs, in Ohio. He had lived in Ontario, and left Canada to join the New York Guard.
His father was a Sergeant in the Revolutionary war.
So, yeh- my family is long term service to our nation.

I read the story about JROTC
I think its hilarious
I love when people get their stuff in a bunch over an elective
do people really think the program is a recruiting tool?
I made a comment to NYT, have the NYT follow an instructor around all day
dont just pick and choose a couple of whiners and make that a story. What about the graduation rate percentages of those in the program? I agree its a hit piece
edit..Dad ww2, 2 brothers Viet Nam..

21 years, as a pilot. His son from his first marriage also spent a full career in the AF in law enforcement and security, and his wife was in as a nurse.
My dad and his older brother both served during WWII. My dad was in the Army and my uncle was in the Navy.
Their paternal grandfather was in the Union Army during the Civil War. I have several letters that he wrote to his mother during his enlistment.
I was in the Air Force nurse corp as a pediatric nurse practitioner - 4 years active duty, and 8 years a a reservist.
My husband and I met in Japan. We were next door neighbors in the BOQ - Bachelor Officers Quarters.

(25,851 posts)There is also some evidence that many generations ago, I have ancestors who battled the British in the Revolutionary war. Records indicate my ancestors settle in what is now Massachusetts and Maine in the mid 1600 to 1800's.

(11,027 posts)My dad (the middle son of 3) enlisted in the Air Force when the Korean War started, and was lucky enough to be posted in Okinawa, on the ground, for the duration of his hitch.
His older brother was an Army MP who guarded Tojo during his incarceration and trial for war crimes. I don't believe he was ever in combat in the Pacific theater, as that was a prerequisite for guarding the Japanese prisoners.
The youngest brother was an Air Force officer who flew SIGINT missions "off the Russian coast" during the Cold War. (He never fessed up to us as having been in Russian airspace...if he did indeed fly into it.) We never knew what he did until much later, but we had our suspicions because the USAF taught him to speak fluent Russian after he enlisted.

(24,685 posts)Father was Navy in the Pacific. Uncle was Army in Europe. My brother - Navy in Vietnam. His son - Air Force in Iraq.
An older uncle killed in WWI. A ggg-uncle died in the Civil War (Union side). A gggg-grandfather served in the War of 1812. That ancestor's father was a Sargeant in the Revolutionary War and his father was a Captain in the Revolution. The Captain's father was a Lieutenant in the French and Indian Wars. The Lieutenant's father was an Ensign in the MA colonial militia, promoted to Captain after ransoming back over 100 captives (including 3 of his children) taken by the French in a raid on his colonial village which killed his wife, daughter, BIL and SIL.
Several generations.
