(65,242 posts)I used to love giving out treats to the little ones but we're just too old to deal with it. So we go dark and I'm sad about it. But it's just too much effort now.

(120,596 posts)I even have cute little orange and black tabletop trees.
And, just to annoy a particularly self-righteous xian neighbor who is offended by this "satanic" holy day, one of those inflatable vampires to hang from a tree.
Although, I do not consider Halloween satanic.
It is a paean traditions, IMO

"damn" or "hell" in front of her, but certainly is free with the "f" word when she is pissed.

(16,068 posts)and I dont remember ever hearing that we couldnt celebrate Halloween. Is it a fundie-evangelical thing?
niyad
(120,596 posts)we always passed out candy. I don't remember hearing anything from the priest, excep for a discussion about Nov 1.. . All Souls Day. . .hmmmm

(7,593 posts)I was also raised Catholic. I never heard about Halloween being satanic until I moved to the Deep South. Of course, hardcore fundies don't think Catholics are Christians, so there's that.

(7,053 posts)I'm "into it," just no trick or treaters in my neighborhood. I love Halloween, but we turn off the lights because we get 1 or 2 all night long. And we have a lot of dogs that would scare the kiddos and not in a fun way, lol.

(312 posts)I live on a dead end country road with only 6 other houses and haven;t had a trick or treater for years

(7,593 posts)Halloween is my husband's favorite holiday. I think we have more Halloween decorations than Christmas ones. Our yard features ghosts, tombstones, & a huge spider. Our next door neighbors have a huge Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man in their yard, so we get a lot of trick-or-treaters too. I usually just put on a hockey jersey to hand out candy. I even like handing out candy to the neighborhood ghosts & goblins. It's all about fun!

(120,596 posts)appropriately, and take turns passing out treats while the other one cackles, etc. The porch is strung with orange lights, and skeletons guard the door. I think we have more fun than the kids. The refreshments are much better.

(16,068 posts)I do leave the jack-o-lantern outside. Now that Im thinking about perhaps Ill put a skeleton or ghost or something outside too.

(18,628 posts)last year a simple ghost.
This year I'm thinking I'll cut out a black paper silouette of a haunted house with a few cut out windows w little ghosts in them. Maybe glue a yellow full moon near the top and draw a few bat silhouettes in that. 👍
Maybe 15+ years ago I did a bigger more elaborate one with a foam core base.
If I decide to go easier I did a bit more elaborate ghost re silhouette and coloring.

(9,842 posts)I'll try to post some photo's of my current and pervious outdoor decor later on today.
Right now, it's like 5:11AM on a Sunday and my SO is literally talking to me about his job experiences this week while I'm trying to enjoy my weekend and not wanting to think or talk about work.

(9,842 posts)These tombstones were made from leftover acrylic sheets that I got for free. I ended up throwing them away after Halloween since these were too top heavy. I need styrofoam sheets to make my own tombstones. I do have store bought tombstones, it's just not the same as ones that I can create.
Sometimes I use a tomato cage and place one of my kids old Halloween costumes on top of the tomato cage. I'll make a paper mache head and after dried, I'll place the Halloween mask from the costume on the head.
The Cat's Meow pumpkin that I carved one year.
Many years ago I took glass jars, removed the food labels and cleaned them up. I painted (free handed) the ghost, pumpkin and spooky tree with acrylic paint. I place battery operated tea candles inside the jars. I use these every year.

(35,981 posts)Last year I only got a handful of kids, and I ended up eating most of the candy myself.
We'll see what happens this year. It hardly seems worth the trouble.

(36,615 posts)You can't have skeletons if no one brings them to you.
Sometimes vinyl siding salesmen come around, but that's usually in the summer and no one is impressed by skeletons in the yard then. Leftovers are just tossed into the woods for the critters to divide amongst themselves.
