(2,315 posts)And Nehi too. Takes me back to when I was a kid in the 1950s and 1960s. I remember when I used to buy six-ounce bottles of Coke for six cents. I don't suppose that'll ever happen again, not even at Cracker Barrel.

(59,718 posts)Oh yes, carbonated drinks have to be cold! The colder the better yes.

(2,994 posts)Do not drink sugared pop anymore. and DDP or Dr Pepper Zero are best of the diet cola-ish types.
Alpeduez21
(1,874 posts)I think it tastes most like the non diet version than any other soda.

(20,733 posts)but Diet Dr Pepper is better than Diet Coke. Coke Zero is acceptable. I've never liked Pepsi.

(27,617 posts)My tongue wants to slap me whenever I taste the original sweetener they put in Tab. I have no idea what they use now. I liked the texture of the bottle, though. Satisfying in a tactile way.

(30,795 posts)when I do I prefer diet Coke. If root beer is available, I prefer it over Coke. Anymore I drink coffee in the morning and water the rest of the day.

(27,617 posts)I havent drank sugary soda since the early 80s when diet colas made an appearance. I have since given up on those as well. The last time I tasted any of those drinks, they were sweetened with cane sugar - not HFCS. The Coke product was what came to be known as Coca-Cola Classic, which I dont expect to taste anything like whats on shelves now.
I took the Pepsi Challenge back in the day, and I found Pepsi to taste sweeter than Coke, although I preferred the more astringent Coke product. Dr. Pepper was another kettle of fish. I enjoyed it occasionally, but some of the inscrutable flavors were a tad off-putting. I swore it was made from prunes until I found it debunked later.

(22,819 posts)it is the Coke of my youth! I have probably only actually consumed a Coke once or twice in the past 20 years but if I do I will only want Mexican Coke.
I never drink diet sodas. My diet drinks are water or unsweetened iced tea

(6,616 posts)This was when I could drink it. Nowadays, I cannot have any of that. Sigh. I really loved Pepsi though.
Anyone ever had 'milk and Pepsi'? Did you ever pour your small bag of peanuts into your Pepsi? These were very popular back in the day.

(6,616 posts)RC was my drink of choice when I would stay with my grandmother and she would be working her shift at the local store. Then Sundrop came out with a promotional where they had prizes in the bottle caps. I would go in with her every day and empty the cap bins that were attached to the machine and go through them. Most people did not worry about the cap thing, so I usually ended up with free Sundrops all day long.

(2,315 posts)I'm a Pepper. It's the most original soft drink in the world. D'you know that flavor that makes people who don't like Dr. Pepper complain that it "tastes like medicine"? I LOVE that flavor. As I said, I'm a Pepper.

(5,192 posts)Back in the late 70s/early 80s I lived on Dimetapp because of allergies and asthma that would kick in if my allergies got too severe. I remember the big brown Rx bottle always in the cabinet by the fridge and never minded taking my dose because of the flavor. I love Dr. Pepper, and as far as I can remember, there is a similar flavor. Never thought of it till reading your comment.

(36,963 posts)a 16 oz. bottle. I think even before RC Cola. That was back in the mid 1950's when coke was in 8 oz bottles.
That was a Pittsburgh area thing.

I think of ANY cola sodas as battery acid. Awful stuff.

(5,192 posts)I go through phases Dr P for a few weeks or months, then it starts tasting boring, so then on to Coke, and then root beer
EtA: Safeway used to sell a store brand soda called Craigmont. What was cool is you could mix and match cans/flavors for a 6 or 12 pack. A big icy cooler full was always a staple at our sporting events, a treat for after the game. They had some unique (at the time) flavors- strawberry, cream soda, and my favorite one, black cherry. I wonder if they taste as good as I remember? Their versions of coke and root beer were good, too.

(59,718 posts)If you mean McDonald's fountain coke or small glass bottles,
then it is an insult for them to be on this list with other mere beverages.
Elixirs from the Gods do not belong in such a poll.
If you mean cans of coke, or please god no, the dreaded coke in a plastic liter bottle which is the devil's work.
They you can put those on this list.
But you see why I must decline voting in your poll.
yellowdogintexas
(22,819 posts)she would stick them in the freezer for about 45 minutes, then when you popped the cap the coke would freeze from the neck down, and it was like a slushie. The best.
(as long as you got it out before it exploded)
I found small glass bottles the other day but they were HFCS domestic not Mexican.
Irish_Dem
(59,718 posts)However, I think McDonald's fountain is better because it has higher level of carbonation
which gives that slight burning sensation in the throat as you swallow.
I do not like the Mexican, the taste is just not the same as US Coke.
Wow on your mom's technique. I will have to try it.
Hopefully the bottle won't explode.

(26,845 posts)I gave them up 30 or more years ago. The long-term effects of soft drinks, whether real sugar or diet, has got to be worse than we know.

(14,964 posts)Also it makes an excellent toilet cleaner, letting a can soak in the toilet for, I think an hour.(It really does work well, better than I ever would have imagined)
Coke is still my favorite.
Unless it is at Universal Studios, fountain Pepsi. I don't know if it's the heat or being at the theme parks in general and having fond memories, but they have the best fountain Pepsi.

(10,370 posts)... I voted for Coke. Dr. Pepper would be 2nd and Pepsi 3rd. However, I would not drink ANY of them today. First, any soda I drink must be sugar-free. I did drink Diet Coke for years. But need to get rid of the aspartame... so now I drink Zevia. Really, I'm okay with just carbonated water - or plain water!
