I haven't watched network TV news in several years, but I tuned in for coverage of today's events, and yikes....

Things have really degenerated. Two minutes of content, then 8 minutes of commercials, another 2 minutes of news, then 6 minutes of commercials, a 10-second teaser for an upcoming story, then more commercials ad infinitum. I don't want to ask my doctor if Blarfagenicon is right for me.

I've relied on news aggregation sites (and of course, DU to nurture my personal liberal confirmation bias ), for the past three or four years. By forgoing network TV news, I haven't missed a thing, have I?

I'm only kind of listening (partner has it on in the next room), but they're covering a lot of bases, providing info on what happens now, and are very optimistic about Harris, which is probably what we all need right now.

I know that's cable and not network, but it sounds like the difference is pretty stark. Haven't even had the zillion drug ads they usually run.

Wonder if we can sue for violating our rights to be free from this cruel and unusual punishment ?

I get almost all of my news of late from a few very targeted sites - DU primarily, several LinkedIn Boards, a lot of subscriptions to private newsletters and pocasts, and that's about it. We cut the cord some time ago, even to the point of having wireless routers (so no more cable). I stopped listening to the talking heads several years back - I found that for the most part they either told me what I had already gleaned elsewhere, but clearly packaged to push the corporate agenda, or they told me outright lies that I could easily debunk, but didn't want to take the blood pressure hit.

I occasionally use an AI bot to collate articles in certain areas that might be of interest, giving me links and summaries to decide what's actually worth following. It's not perfect, but does seem to capture the most notable things in my various domains, an I avoid the ads as a side benefit.

the negative side effects of the last couple of innovative new blarfagenicons I tried FAR outweighed any little bit of good they did me.)
