Kindness

We took a friend, for his 80th Birthday, to lunch at Holman's Table located at Holman Field, the small airport near downtown St. Paul, MN.
Lunch was great and the staff was fabulous.
Our friend ordered chocolate cake for dessert. It came with a candle and a $15. gift certificate. We all came home with enough food for dinner.
Great restaurant and the staff made our friend's birthday very special.
My friend was elated with his birthday lunch.
It costs so little to be kind.

.........people as kindness to others. And acknowledging the kindness of others is the flip side of that coin. Good for you.

My wife (age 82) cannot get around much but the one thing she always does is -- twice a month -- to gather a few of the church ladies to write cards to people on our prayer list -- thinking of you, praying for you, keep smiling, and the like.

They rarely if ever hear from the recipients.

Last week they sent a card to a lady who is facing surgery for colon cancer. Today, a friend of the lady called my wife -- she and the lady to whom the card was mailed were on the phone, both of them in tears. The lady who received the card said "This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me!!"

$1.00 for a card at the dollar store, 5 minutes to write a personal note, 52 cents for a stamp, 2 minutes to walk out to the mailbox and leave the card for pickup. You cannot put a price on what it means.

It costs nothing to give a smile or just make eye contact but it can connect and acknowledge the humanity in people.
