(24,011 posts)So chips (too oily), Doritos (good but dangerous), peanuts (too oily) had to go. Popcorn, with no flavoring added was the winner.

(11,477 posts)... you get rid of Doritos. I don't dislike them particularly, but there are many other brands of corn chips, some of which are better.

(392 posts)Peanuts are a great snack lowen glycemic count and healthy for you. Popcorn at least is not a negative health risk. The others Doritos Cheetos potato chips are all just carbohydrates salt and sugar. Get rid of them.

(9,191 posts)- seems they often have aflatoxins. Cashews and pistachios are my favorites- no peanuts for me. Cashew and almond butter are also better choices than peanut butter.
Aflatoxins in Nuts: Danger or Hype?
Some of the scary things you may have heard about nuts and aflatoxins are probably exaggerated. Nonetheless, these are not imaginary concerns

(3,305 posts)Is TOXIC. Fried in peanut or coconut oil are OKAY. Peanuts are no problem as long as you arent allergic. If you want to fight inflammation drop all seed oils, basically all restaurant fried foods.

(3,305 posts)They make them and they are soooo good.
The book about oils is called Dark Calories by Dr. Catherine Shanahan
she is an outlier but I have changed my diet
inflammation is the root of all disease. John Fuglesang has had her on his Sirius Show where I heard her. By the way, I forgot all of the other fats that are safe are the natural ones like butter and lard and beef tallow. Theyre all perfectly safe to fry in.

(4,933 posts)And, as a cinephile, I've sat in many a darkened theater with a bag of corn dripping with that stuff manufactured by 3M that they pass off as 'butter.' Yet after about five minutes of consuming it, I'm over it. Starts feeling like I'm eating packing material. And the microwave stuff is hideous.

(4,933 posts)using a large, multi-quart pan that she would move back and forth over the stove's heating coils. It was Jiffy Pop for poor folks. She did occasionally splurge and get us some Jiffy Pop, or buy a jar of Orville Redenbacher kernels, but those treats were few and far between.
I will still buy a bag at the movies every now and again, but I never get more than halfway into the bag before I give up. And, that's their 'small' size. I see people there getting these HUGE tubs and then going back for refills. I don't know how they do it.

Though, I make my Thai Coconut curry with peanuts, so my wife will be unhappy.

(69,643 posts)Nuts dotcom.
The prices are quite good and we got shelled Brazil nuts. Boy, they were great! We got hazelnuts too. They have lots of nuts we can't get in the supermarket here.
My wife made a killer, gourmet Chex mix. I could eat it by the pound.

(17,691 posts)I want to try their sweet Chilli chips s well.
I've enjoyed peanuts since childhood, esp PB smooth, or chunky.
I later made an Chinese Asian style PB that I got at an activists' meeting. Peanuts, soy sauce, garlic & ginger. Very tasty!!!
Maybe I should make it again, and add scallions.
I especially love popcorn w white cheddar. Yum!
If I'd had 3 more $ going to the supermarket last night I'd have gotten Smart Food's popcorn w white cheddar. I don't think I'd ever seen it theres before. Gotten Trader's brand as well. 👍
