The Washington Commanders have become my county's second-favorite football team
Nothing's going to replace the Seahawks, but we now have a local tie to the Commanders.
Colson Yankoff was the star quarterback of the Coeur d'Alene High School football team. He led the Vikings - yes, their logo is that of the Minnesota Vikings - to the 2017 state large-school football championship. He was recruited by the University of Washington, did one redshirt season there, then transferred to UCLA. UCLA used him as a wide receiver, running back and kick returner.
Mr. Yankoff seems to have realized that depending on football to make a living was a gamble so he spent his time wisely, earning a bachelor's in economics and a master's in education.
He wasn't picked up in the 2024 NFL Draft, but the Washington Commanders took him as an undrafted free agent.
The Commanders finally released their 2024 53-man final roster. He's on it.
