(46,757 posts)I bought two of those "baby-proofing" locks for the cabinets, they keep the cats out.
And they insist on trying to get in the cabinet that has nothing but cleaning stuff in it!

(24,223 posts)I was tired of her opening my lower kitchen cupboards to flip container storage lids onto the floor for a game of giant tiddly winks. So, while she was napping in another room, I put strips of masking tape across the top of the lower doors, figuring it was too high for her to reach and the color was not obvious against the light wood of the cabinets.
Later I watched her try to open a cupboard door by flipping it open at the bottom as usual. When it didn't budge, she backed up, sat down and stared at the door. Then like a human child who just figured out "What doesn't belong in this picture?" she rushed at the door, stood on hind legs and stretched her paws as far as possible, claws extended. She caught a piece of masking tape with her claws and pulled at it until she got a strip long enough to put in her mouth. Then she tore that strip off. She repeated that until the entire piece of masking tape was gone, flipped open the cupboard door, and crawled inside. She sat there looking out at me with triumphant pride in her body language.
I felt both awestricken and defeated.

(24,223 posts)I was in for some future mischief from her.
I was not wrong. After one of her kitten vaccinations, the vet said that kitty would be a bit lethargic for a few hours. I said, "Promise?" I needed a break from trying to keep up with her.
But she is 9 years old now and has mellowed a bit.
