(1,833 posts)It comes in a big green bottle and is slightly pricy, but it works for me.
All beauty shops have it.
My doctor once said I had Seborrhea so maybe it works for that.

It's sold at the drug store. Brand is T-Gel. Only have to use it once in a week.

(45,767 posts)Shampoo dries and flakes. I suspect scalp is slightly allergic to shampoo. After a couple months everything cleared up by itself, now smaller amounts of shampoo. Hair feels cleaner. By this theory shampoo is an addictiion they sell to us that creates and solves its own problem.

(307 posts)But research the precautions. It shouldn't be used if you have any broken or irritated skin are the ones I know of.
Only use Listerine original. I only had to use it once and the dandruff never came back. Ended up throwing the rest of the bottle away years later.

(22,305 posts)Scientific research is inconclusive, but anecdotal evidence suggests it may have some benefit.
Also want to note that Clinique clarifying lotion (made for face exfoliation) also works on beard flakes. This worked for my brother and many others. It contains salicylic acid, witch hazel and other ingredients.
Mix a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar with a quarter cup of water, then pour it over your scalp. Leave it in for at least 15 minutes, then rinse your scalp well. Some studies have shown apple cider vinegar can have antimicrobial effects.

(8,886 posts)My mom was a licensed cosmetologist before she retired and she always recommended tea tree oil shampoo to her clients that had dandruff. She even recommended tea tree oil shampoo when I though I was developing psoriasis on my scalp. It turned out to be an allergy from a brand hair product that I was using and not actually psoriasis.
I don't know if there's a brand that's better than another for the tea tree oil shampoo.
If you have a Sally's Beauty Supply near you, or a pharmacy store like CVS or Walgreens you could check there. Amazon has everything that other in stores don't have.
Good luck, Botany.
