(46,560 posts)They used to shoot in iconic villages mostly. Now a lot more studio sets.

(182 posts)had an unfair advantage because Neil Dudgeon blew me away in an episode of The Street long before MM. Maybe not as handsome as John Nettles, but an extraordinary actor.
Also, while I find John and Tom equal in charm, I did not care for Tom's baggage (oblivious Joyce and esp. bossy, prickly, entitled and overweening Cully). I blame the writers, not the actresses. John's wife -and dog! - were a breath of fresh air and John has great chemistry with them.

(706 posts)Like both characters, but the original Barnaby is my favorite. As a side note Neil Dudgeon, the second Barnaby, was on the show a long time before John Nettle's character left. Neil Dudgeon played a gardener in Season Four Episode 1, the episode called Garden of Death as a character named Daniel Bolt. Neil Dudgeon's character tries to pick up Barnaby's wife, Joyce! Fun to watch if you have Acorn TV.

(12,688 posts)Entertaining show overall. I like that, for the most part, the solutions to the mysteries are complex.
Unlike , for example Colombo, where you know who done it from the jump.

The episode where Neil Dudgeon plays the gardener was good too. The episode where they introduce John was a really good one
On edit; how many brides were killed on their wedding day on this series? I've seen 2 just today and I remember another where the bride was shot through a window. So that's 3 so far that I can remember.
And how many Bella's live in these little villages? I figure one of the writers has a Bella so uses that name in just about every episode.
