(23,458 posts)Those jazzy touches and theatrics, that tongue-in-cheek humor, the absurdity, the androgyny...
If it's an '80s music video, it's gotta be British.

(34,852 posts)It's from a religious group called "The Way" (There's another video of them dancing)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Marcia_King
It is believed the reason she had traveled to Ohio may have been due to her suspected involvement with the religious organization The Way.[5]

(15,007 posts)Wow
Not hard for me to believe the connection to a murder though. That guy is a dead ringer for Christian Bale in American Psycho.

(34,852 posts)She was missing from Arkansas and was apparently affiliated with "The Way" for awhile. She was a Jane Doe for almost 40 years and was identified in 2018.

Gotta wonder why they got the "Choose Life" shirts and why they were wearing them. Something tells me they were cheap!

(2,847 posts)is a classic video! Check it out if you have never seen. Was cool then and still is.
there are plenty of songs, like Blue Monday, Relax, etc that are so 80's, but this video is the masterpiece, IMO.

(10 posts)Did you know, there's another updated higher-tech cover video of it, by A1? The song sounds mostly the same, but the story of the video is very different. It's not really 80's like the original.

(2,847 posts)as soon as they entered that simulation, all I could think of was the movie 'Tron'. I was surprised when I looked up this video that it is from 2000 - long after that movie which I think it leans heavily upon for the visual style. Then I thought - ah ha! (pun intended) they are covering an 80's song, so might as well use a 80's movie esthetic to match.
Thanks for sharing. (Of course I far prefer the original - especially for what it was when it came out and it still holds up.)

That's why I put the "literal version" of Total Eclipse of the Heart in the poll
Here are partial lyrics to the parody of Total Eclipse of the Heart. It catches the randomness of the whole thing!
[
Spin Around Ninjas (Turn around. Bright eyes)
Then, a bunch of preppies making toast.
Drinking Wine. Douche Bags (Turn around. Bright eyes)
And they shouldn't fence at night.
Or they're gonna hurt the gymnasts
But Arthur Fonzarelli's got an army of clones.
I'll pose like Rocky tonight!
I'm running up a bunch of stairs.

(9,072 posts)This is cheesy 80's in a good way with a cool nostalgia factor for me. These guys were OWNING it. This song and video could not be made today.

(1,536 posts)The roller disco craze was the rage... and this song, a bittersweet theme of the glitter and fun of those days always haunts me.

(34,852 posts)He's taken it pretty well.
I heard the song for the first time (somehow) only a few years ago, and when I subsequently saw the video, I was amused by the difference between his appearance and my imagination.
