Jim & shared beers a couple times, around 20 years ago.
I enjoyed those hours shooting the breeze. We covered a hundred topics in those 2 conversations
He LOVED talking economics & WW2, though. We spent quite a big % of our talks on that.
Now that he's gone, I feel bad that I didn't set aside the time to drive an hour and a half to meet with him again.
Actually, I did a bit over 4 years ago, but COVID smoked that idea.
He will be missed.

The poster to whom I replied made me remember this.
Several of us were there already, and he arrived. Some of the ladies started saying "That has to be The Magistrate". And they were right.
So, he looked just as folks expected him to look, even back then! It wasn't just that poster I answered!

That he was a few months younger than I am is slightly unnerving—it’s good that I only found this out now.

I mentioned that he reminded me of only one other person I knew—also an extremely erudite friend with whom I could discuss everything from the Vietnam War (in which he played an unintended prominent role) to ancient Egypt. There was even a slight physical resemblance. I would have loved to have listened to a conversation between the two of them. Transcribed, that would have been on the NYT bestseller list for months.

older than me. Certainly a wise sage beyond is years, and because I swear I just came across a post of his very recently after a rather long gap in time.
No matter, I always enjoyed reading him and he happens to look a lot like I had imagined, funny how that happens sometimes
Certainly these photos give a look of a relaxed, retired professor, and he exudes a gentle and humorous spirit. May he Rest in Peace along with his Brother .
He will be remembered as he will be missed.

Thank you for sharing.

Rigging drove him nuts. I frequently heard his deep 'godDAMNit' coming from his workroom. Over time he gave up scratchbuilding for modeling kits that he bought in multiples.

Me: Why do you have three of the same thing?

Him: It's missing parts that I needed so I got two more. I probably won't build the third kit but I like to have backup.

Me: (eyeroll)

Him: (indignant) They didn't cost much!

No, they didn't.

He was very proud of his foiling techniques. Hope to post some of his best work when things have settled.
