It IS the guns. Ban the mass human killing machines.

(11,631 posts)Corporate health care could actually destroy us it would seem. Great post.
The people can get what they want. The problem is that many have been convinced
that is not what they want.

Too dramatic? Too sensational? The world we live in today is 180 degrees squared from that of the 1960's. It's not merely the tech. Maybe it's what tech has done to people's minds (.......a concept maybe worth a look).

(10,043 posts)I am beside myself on this issue. I maintain that Sandy Hook was the event that executed the soul of this nation. That heart-rending massacre at the hands of a lunatic with easy access to weaponry of war through parents that maintained it and did not secure it or him was an inflection point for me. I can't even consider anyone's opinion until the loop holes that allow mentally unfit individuals to access guns OR fail to prosecute the legal owners of guns obtained and used illegally responsible are fully closed and made law.
Background checks are necessary, not optional.
Firearm owner insurance should be as prerequisite for legal gun ownership as a driver's license and property taxes paid are for vehicle ownership.
Red flag laws MUST exist and MUST be enforced by the law, period. I do not care about the protestations of some rinky-dink dipshit local sheriff who wants attention and claims he won't enforce the law...he can get in the next available cell too for all I care...but the access to dangerous weapons MUST be treated as a threat to public health and steps taken to reduce that threat, period.
If people are so in love with their pew-pew sticks and the big boom making pistols and long guns, FINE....own as many as you want - but you are to be responsible for them as well. They get stolen and not reported? You better haul ass to the law and report them missing BEFORE they get used in a shooting or crime...
You want to have that powerful feeling of death-dealer in your hands? FINE...but if you do act on that, you will be prosecuted for illegal actions, and YOU WILL BE JAILED.
The wild, wild west even had more common sense gun laws when the damn sheriff would make visitors surrender their arms when they entered a town because even then, people knew that fucking GUNS KILL, and fast shooting guns simply KILL MORE, and FASTER.
This is NOT a rights issue - it is a responsibility issue and a public health issue. Pretending it is anything else is complicity and a tacit approval and statement that you personally do not give a fuck who dies as long as its not you...even if that means placing your own family, friends and children at greater risk of gun violence than absolutely necessary (and if we are not in an active war or repelling an invasion, that necessary risk is damn near ZERO or we're asleep at the wheel...)
