Madonna's Decades-Old Song Lands On Multiple Charts For The First Time

By 1987, Madonna was already a household name all around the world. She’d spent years churning out some of the biggest smashes in pop music history, and she was looking for new projects. That year, the superstar dropped her first soundtrack that accompanied a movie she was in, which produced a number of hit singles.

Decades later, Madonna’s “Causing a Commotion,” which is featured on the Who’s That Girl album, has become a hit again in the U.K. The tune debuts on a pair of charts across the pond, as fans of the singer return to the track and buy it in large enough numbers to turn it into a bestseller—again.

“Causing a Commotion” debuts on the Official Singles Downloads chart this week. The tune opens at No. 68 on the list of the most-downloaded individual tunes in the country.

The same cut neatly matches that position on another closely-related roster. “Causing a Commotion” is new at No. 70 on the Official Singles Sales tally, which lists any and all tracks that sell well enough.

Madonna was inspired by her relationship with Sean Penn to write the song.
