Amaretto, Kahlua, and Irish Cream, shaken with ice, then strained into an ice-filled highball glass, then an ounce of tequila floated on top.
Nice.
Happy Saturday night, everyone!

(8,624 posts)It sounds like a nutty Irishman with a Mexican on top.

(8,624 posts)And we called it a nutty Irishman with an Italian on top. It was the 80s and 90s. There were Black Russians, SLO and comfortable screws against the wall, sex on the beach, White Russians, car bombs, orgasms, screaming orgasms, the dirty sanchez, Scarletts OHaras, dirty bananas the list goes on.

(8,624 posts)A nutty Irishman with Aunt Mary on top. I dont know why we decided it was Italian, maybe it said product of Italy in the bottle. It was like a thin Kahlua.

(28,997 posts)Tia Maria was originally made in Jamaica, the historical fable of its origins dates it to the 17th century. A young Spanish girl was forced to flee Jamaica, and the family plantation during a conflict. She was accompanied by a sole female servant who carried a bit of jewelry and the recipe for the family liqueur. In honor of the woman's help, the girl named the liqueur "Tia Maria" (tía is Spanish for "aunt".), her name for the woman who had helped save her life.
They spent days trying to come up with a name, until Cargill recounted the story of trying to get his aunt's original recipe and Joseph MacNulty said, "I know exactly what we'll call that damn liqueur. Aunt Mary Tia Maria."[1]

(I'm sure the story is true..LOL)
I would think the liqueurs would by overpowered by tequila. I think rum would make a smoother drink. But what do I know? I don't drink!

The rule of one per customer doesnt apply here.
Sounds really sweet with some kind of earthy mushroom on top, like peyote maybe.

And it's true, there is such a thing as a bad trip. I only had one because I somehow got unintentionally dosed and had to spend my might at home trying to act straight, it was tough because I had to spend most of it in my room.

BTW, the football team from Southwestern will be playing in your neighborhood next week against the University of Puget Sound. Unfortunately, Birmingham-Southern which is in our conference closed this past spring due to financial reasons which left the other schools scrambling to fill out their schedules. The good news is that we won tonight 24-20 even though we were picked near the bottom of the SAA while the opponent, McMurry in Abilene, was picked to win the reconstituted SCAC. The last time the SCAC had football was in 2016 when Southwestern won the conference the fourth year after our football program took a 63 year hiatus.

(24,588 posts)Just not quite so much.
Seriously, I gave up drinking in May. They won't let you drink in the hospital. I feel surprisingly good. I also lost 25 lbs. Enjoy it while you can, my friend. You are doing it right. I wasn't.

(22,641 posts)When I got out, I wondered if my drinking was exasperating my health issues. So, I quit.
I have lost 20 pounds, seem to have settled into a comfortable 23 BMI, and I generally feel great.
Surprisingly, since I was a pretty heavy drinker, I don't miss it at all.

(24,588 posts)I was at a party at my grandson's house and suddenly got real dizzy. When I fell, I took the full impact on concrete with my left forehead. (which I don't remember at all.) I had a mild seizure for about one minute then people had to hold me down until EMTs arrived.
They scooped me up and took me to the nearest hospital where they ran a few tests and found a fractured orbital and a brain bleed. The tests were done in less than an hour. The hospital said they recomended a nearby rehab facility facility in the same nedical corporate system about 20 miles away. I have no recollection of this and the following week. The bill at the first hospital was $23,000 for less than one hour. I can only imagine what the bill was at the next hospital for about 20 days. I haven't seen it yet. Thanks to Medicare, I paid nothing.
To make a long story not so long, I am now fully recovered and better than I ever was. My blood pressure is back to normal after ten years on medication which I am now off of. I now weigh 155-160 instead of 175-180. I'm only 5' 4". My moderate stutter I have struggled with all of my 71 years has miraculously vanished. My persistent heartburn is gone. I am down to one prescription pill after coming home from the hospital on over ten of them. A recent CT scan showed my brain bleed was gone.
The irony was when the accident happened I wasn't drinking and had not for over 24 hours. I always thought I didn't have a drinking problem as long as I could quit for a day or two without any symptoms. I was wrong. I was drinking 1.75 liters of Jim Beam Bourbon on the rocks per week, and had been doing so for over ten years. I never drove when drunk and only drank at home. Like you, I don't miss it at all. My wife, a non-drinker, is much happier than I am.

(22,641 posts)I can, in the right light and with tremendous "flexing", kind of sort of see remnants of my old abs.
Makes me wonder if I can get my old "six-pack" back, which I haven't seen in 30 years.
Hard to do in my seventies, but the fact that I am even considering working towards a goal like that shows how I have changed.
I should have done this decades ago. Like you, I never considered drinking to be a problem (always made it to work) but looking back I see that I would be much better off today if I had quit earlier.
