While I was preparing for the hurricane, they all knew MrsK.
I opened the door, "I simply said, I haven't slept with a woman, since Hurricane Debby, I guess, I'm sleeping with another tomorrow, can I get a drink?, why do they give hurricanes, female names?"
Koz , gonna ride the storm again.

(7,454 posts)The first storm with a male name was hurricane Bob, which hit the United States Gulf Coast in 1979. Before the use of short names, hurricanes had been categorized by latitude and longitude numbers.

(34,189 posts)My husband is going to a Sci-Fi convention in Orlando, leaving tomorrow morning. So I'll be here outside Tallahassee by myself with a storm - again.
He used to go to DragonCon every year Labor Day weekend and I lost track of the number of storms that hit our area during that time of year. This will be the worst, though.
Our house is ICF and built to withstand bad storms so I feel safe enough and I'm glad I'll be here with the cats. I've got Generacs for the house and well so I'll have power and water. Probably no phone or internet since CenturyLink has batteries on their rural boxes that run out four hours after we lose power. But I've got DVDs to keep entertained and radio to keep track of what is happening.
Best of luck, Koz!

(34,189 posts)My husband and his friends decided to wait until Friday morning to drive down state - if they can get out of town, that is. So he will be here with me at least through tonight.
Thing is, I doubt the roads will be clear enough for them to get together for the drive.
I will get in touch - if we have internet, that is. After some storms (just thunderstorms) our roads have been blocked by trees. We're on what they call a canopy road - lots of trees overhanging the road, so I doubt it will be driveable Friday.

(34,189 posts)Which means phone and internet are working. It took about the same amount of time as it did earlier this year when the tornadoes went through Tallahassee - 36 hours or so.
No damage to our house, lots of smallish limbs down, mostly dead wood. A big limb down from the big pecan tree, lost a cherry in one of the pastures. I haven't tried to drive around the various pastures to see what else might have come down, but we lucked out with where the eye came in and that the entire storm seemed to unravel as it hit the coast.
