Please share a good protest song, old or new

Share a link if you can. H2O Man got me thinking with his Steppenwolf reference earlier. I miss the righteous music of my youth, and I think we could all use some.

Well, get your dirty hands off my Constitution now
It was written down, you can't tear it down
Hear me talking to you, buddy I swear it's true
Take your hands off it, you know it don't belong to you, no, no

Now get your greasy hands off my Bill of Rights
It was written right, you can't make it wrong
You can't stop me singing this true lonesome song, oh no
Take your hands off it, you know it don't belong to you

Get your greasy stinking hands off my voting rights
I'll vote how I please, I'll vote how I choose
You can spend your money but in the end you're bound to lose
I think you will
You can't Jim Crow down my vote
'Cause you know it don't belong to you

And get your greedy hands off the Union now
With your sweatshop kid in distant foreign lands
They might be locked down but the world is watching too
They're watchin'
That's our sisters and brothers
You know they don't belong to you
They really don't

Now what's your sanctimonious hands
Doin' in my reproductive rights?
Get them out of there, that's none of your affair
You don't speak to God, you know he don't belong to you, oh no
You ain't talking to him, you know he don't belong to you

So get your bloody hands off the people of the world
And your war machine and your corporation thieves
That lets you keep your job and pays your salary
Your dirty salary
Take your hands off us, you know we don't belong to you

Take your hands off us
Take your hands off us
Well, take your hands off us
Better take your hands off us
Take your hands off us
You know it don't belong to you

80. It Isn't Nice - Judy Collins
Thu Sep 26, 2024, 08:23 AM
Sep 2024

Composer - Malvina Reynolds

It isn't nice to block the doorway
It isn't nice to go to jail
There are nicer ways to do it
But the nice ways always fail
It isn't nice, it isn't nice
You told us once, you told us twice
But if that is Freedom's price
We don't mind

It isn't nice to carry banners
Or to sit in on the floor
Or to shout our cry of Freedom
At the hotel and the store
It isn't nice, it isn't nice
You told us once, you told us twice
But if that is Freedom's price
We don't mind

We have tried negotiations
And the three-man picket line
Mr. Charlie didn't see us
And he might as well be blind
Now our new ways aren't nice
When we deal with men of ice
But if that is Freedom's price
We don't mind

How about those years of lynchings
And the shot in Evers' back?
Did you say it wasn't proper
Did you stand upon the track?
You were quiet just like mice
Now you say we aren't nice
And if that is Freedom's price
We don't mind

It isn't nice to block the doorway
It isn't nice to go to jail
There are nicer ways to do it
But the nice ways always fail
It isn't nice, it isn't nice
But thanks for your advice
Cause if that is Freedom's price
We don't mind

OK, maybe it's a little out-of-date, but when they set the national speed limit at 55 in the 1980s, it was torture to those of us with a lead foot. Besides, all of the real protest songs have been named.

I hope I live long enough to savor
That when they finally put you in the ground
I’ll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down

The song is actually about Margaret Thatcher but when it gets to this part I’ll pretend it’s about someone else we all know.
