There will be garbled usernames or evidence of a gmail or other email account for these fake ones. Large businesses NEVER use gmail or yahoo or other email accounts. If at all possible go directly (not from links in the email) to the actual business site and contact them directly. Nearly all businesses now have a security group to whom you can forward phishing emails and the address to forward them should appear in their FAQ or other area on the website.

I found out I'm not getting my id alerts I'm paying for had i not had a 2nd company i wouldn't even have known about the big breach.

because I think it's both. I fell for one of these a couple of years ago, only from FedEx saying they needed some minor amount of missing postage to deliver my package. At the time, I was ordering a lot of stuff from Amazon (new grandchild!) and gave them my credit card number. Almost immediately, I thought--wait a minute--Amazon doesn't use FedEx--so I called my credit card company, and sure enough there had been several charges made *in the few minutes it took me to talk to someone at the credit card company* for several hundred dollars.

I didn't have to pay for those charges, obviously, but I did have to get a new credit card, and then go to the places (like DU) where I have automatic payments drawn against that card. It was a real pain in the ass.

Addresses I don't use for delivery. I delete those. I also delete/report text messages about deliveries, mainly because I don't have anything on the way.

Supposedly California some woman saying hi and if I remember her. I have no clue and said you have the wrong number. Instead of just stopping now, this person starts texting me that I'm a gentleman (huh?) and polite yadda ya I blocked it. My text # is also on the dark web

I didn’t think the PO would have email. And they need info, I didn’t think so. Delete and report.
Then I get a call from my medical provider with questions about my info. I said hang on while I get my paperwork. Call my provider and asked if they were calling me. They had even spoofed my caller id on the call. Provider said no they were not calling me.

I delete and it automatically says, "Report spam and block?" on my phone.

The other one that's happened more recently and is constant are phone calls from robots saying they hear I have a tax problem and they can help me.

I registered my phone # on the national do not call list, but still they come. So far, I'm not as dumb as they hope I am.
