Growing up during the pre and post civil period...
Specifically about slavery, war, and racial issues, and reconstruction.
I grew up in the northeast, but living in NC for 20+ years, near SC. There's a definite difference in how that time is portrayed and remembered between those regions.
Not generalizing, but many throughout the South still are taught to harbor resentment, part of what has bred a lot of hatred, across the country.
I've only seen one shirt, 20 years ago that said "South Carolina - Standing alone against Northern aggression since...i forget the year, think it said 1861. No matter, the sentiment is out there.

Thanks for posting this.
It's a reminder to me that other things, scientific things, went on during that time. I always liked history. Looks like it would be an interesting series ove interviews to watch.
