Enjoying my first try at a Lemon Drop tonight.

Lemon vodka, Grand Marnier, lemon juice, orange juice, and a pinch of powdered sugar. That’s the traditional recipe. I omitted the orange juice; we don’t keep it in the house. And for the powdered sugar (we have some, but I didn’t want to go digging around for it), I substituted a dash of simple syrup.

Yum!

Knocked out eight hours of continuing education today. Unemployed or not, I still have to maintain my medical license.

Time to relax!…

I remember a trip to Put in Bay, Ohio, and we stopped in a great little place and ..well, I made it back somehow. These adventures was when I was a lot younger but I loved those Lemon Drops. Now that I’m older n supposed to be smarter, I don’t have those times anymore. In fact, I haven’t had a drink since my 75th birthday and I behaved!

A tanker drinks beer and Mad Dog. Wine coolers if there’s no beer, and Boone’s Farms if there’s no Mad Dog.

When you’re twenty-two and just coming in off of a month in the field, your one goal is altered mental status.

I didn’t develop better taste in booze until much later.

Same as in 2016, so one could argue that I’m tempting fate. But to hell with that. Fate can kiss my ass. Had a bottle ready to go in 2020, too, and I was able properly to celebrate Joe Biden’s victory.

Get to toast at the same time..those who want to with their choice of cheer. We’d have to dedicate a thread for it.

a couple of wine snobs and two just regular dinner drinkers, a cosmo and 2 brandy old fashions, but then the lemon drop came up, and my husband ordered one. You would have thought he ordered a Shirley temple. He has never heard the end of it. He’s not here any more, or I would have told him about this. They never let him forget he ordered it.

I’m no alcohol snob.

Except for beer. Never waste money or consciousness on cheap, mass market beer. Craft beer only.

I lift my manly Lemon Drop in honor of your husband, a true man among men.

I haven't been participating in these cocktail posts, but I have been reading them and trying to imagine what they taste like. Some of them, like this one, sound scrummy, as the British say

The thing is, I'm not much of a drinker. The only time I did any real drinking was in college over 50 years ago, and that mostly consisted of beer or cheap wine. Since then, nothing but the odd mimosa at a brunch.

I would like to try some of the delicious drunks you describe in these posts, but at age 74 and after decades of abstinence, I'm not sure how my body would react.

For now, I think I will continue to vicariously enjoy these lovely beverages through your posts.

We sugared the rim of an ‘up’ glass, then flamed a little vodka, turning the glass by the stem so the sugar would caramelize. Then we'd pour the shaken cocktail into the glass then garnish with a round of lemon. A great presentation elevates a well made cocktail
