Today, I don't consume too much jelly/preserves. Every once in awhile I'll measure out a small amount grape jelly and mix it in a bowl with a small amount of peanut butter just because I need it and I deserve to indulge once in awhile.

I've loved it since I was a child. We had two plum trees in our backyard, and my mother made plum jelly every year. It was wonderful! Unfortunately the trees got old and died many years ago. The store bought variety is very good, but not as good as hers was.

Raspberry spread, mango jam, pear and ginger jam, and orange marmalade.
I make the mango and pear/ginger jams myself. Raspberries are too few here in Hawaii. We do have plenty of citrus so I will likely make some marmalade as well.
I do love strawberry jam, too, but it is not in my top four.

They grow in the swamps here in Florida. The jelly is very mild. It's best on warm biscuits.

A mayhaw tree is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree or shrub that produces tart red berries and is part of the Hawthorne family:
Appearance
Mayhaw trees have oval, pointed leaves that are dull green and downy underneath. They can grow up to 30 feet tall and 8 inches in diameter, with a narrow, rounded crown. In late February or early March, they produce white blooms, and in late April or early May, they produce small, red to orange fruits.

If you were to make me pick my favorite it would be Bonne Maman Blueberry. It is overpriced, but not too bad. Walmart here carries it. At one time it would have been Malkins Strawberry from Canada. Now it is called Canada Jam and is hard to find. You can order it, but again it is pricey and you pay shipping. There are many outstanding products out there, but these two stand above the rest.

My husband likes their orange marmalade. It has elderflowers in it.

And, when we visit the Finger Lakes area in NY state, we stock up on a local delight - black currant jelly and jam. The company also makes a syrup that's good not only on pancakes, but also drizzled over fresh pear slices.

And, Thomas' English muffins now has a variety made with buttermilk. The "nooks and crannies" are huge and provide lots of craters for butter to melt into.

Blackcurrant Jam.

This is the original and avowed best, and they've changed the recipe: honey swapped for corn syrup
and several other downgrades...

So luckily I still have 7 jars, but that will be it.

Black currants taste like a mixture of raspberries, grapes, blackberries, and gooseberries. They are very juicy with a strong tart taste and an acidic and tannic finish. Dried black currants have sweet vanilla and wildflower notes.

It's a special kind of apricot with three times the taste intensity of "normal" apricots. They come from the Wachautal (Wachau Valley) in Austria.

Staud's is considered the gold standard of the brands that are occasionally available outside Austria, although D'Arbo isn't bad for a more mass production. Fair warning--that stuff is extremely addictive!

In the Wachau Valley itself, there are several small family-owned ventures. The Tastl family makes a Marillen Nektar that is thicker than egg nog, and it is not advisable to open a bottle of it with other people around, because violent fights may erupt over who gets to polish the bottle off. And it isn't even booze--just the best fruit juice in the world.

However, I have a bumper crop of basil in my herb bed that I need to use up and I am making basil jelly tomorrow. I am reading that it is amazing on buttered sourdough bread. I will add a sprinkle of basil salt to temper the sweetness. Kind of excited about this project.
