(37,878 posts)I LOVE DONUTS!! Friday was always donut day for me when I worked. Sometimes I'd buy enough for the office but always two donuts for me & two for my cube-neighbor. I'd let her pick first cuz I liked them all.

Best donuts this time of year are the warm homemade apple cider and pumpkin donuts they make local apple orchards. 🎃🍁🍂😋

Even if it's apple cider, it stays along with those messy powdered donuts. I'll happily consume the rest, especially Bavarian cream.

extracted the oil out of a plain cake donut. I dont remember the exact amount he found hidden in there, but it was a shockingly large amount! Hard to imagine that a dry cakey thing could contain that much oil.
Ever since, I try my best not to eat the things. But back in the day, I certainly wolfed down my share of jelly donuts! Raspberry, yum!!

(56,241 posts)Ich bin ein Berliner!
It is a quirk of German grammar that if you say you are a native of a city, you leave off the article. If you refer to a culinary specialty of a city, you do use the article. Nürnberg, for example, is famous for a kind of roast sausage. Frankfurt is famous for a king of boiled sausage. If you want to say, "I am from Frankfurt," you say, "ich bin Frankfurter." if you want to say your ARE one of their boiled sausages, you say, "ich bin ein Frankfurter."
In Berlin, the local traditional specialty is the jelly-filled donut, known as the Berliner. If you want to say you are from Berlin, you say, "ich bin Berliner." If you want to say, "I am a jelly-filled donut," you say "ich bin ein Berliner," as did JFK.
Now, for a while, it was PC to defend JFK, and find convoluted instances where what he said could have been grammatically correct, but the fact remains that in popular speech that everyday Germans use, Kennedy did say he was a jelly-filled donut. It is still nowhere nearly as bad as the reaction a German-speaking Frenchman from Paris would cause if he were to declare to his German hosts, instead of saying "ich bin Pariser (I am a Parisian)," coming out with "ich bin ein Pariser," which would be explaining to your hosts, "I am a condom."

(69,191 posts)I'm one if the oddballs that prefer a plain cake donut. Except.....
When I was in high school, they made fresh donuts every morning, and dusted them with cinnamon/sugar.
Had to be at least a junior to go in the cafeteria in the morning. We couldn't wait for junior year.
A dime each & they were fantastic!
I'd take those over every donut I've ever had.
