The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsOh, for the love of all that is holy. Another home repair issue...
The furnace is fixed and now I need to have a plumber out to snake the pipes.
Nasty water from the upstairs toilet and shower (?), and water from the washing machine, are flowing out of the downstairs toilet. The downstairs shower floor looks gross too, like some backflow was in there and slowly drained out. I rarely go downstairs, usually just for laundry and to place trash bags in the garage until my weekly dump trip. Went down to put a load of clothes in the dryer and saw water pooled on the floor outside the bathroom. The water is clear but around the floor around the toilet, and the toilet itself, look nasty. Yuck. The whole bathroom has water on the floor.
There be a clog somewhere between the house and the septic tank and field. The water on the floor in the furnace room the other night must have been from a much smaller flooding. I didnt shower or do laundry that night but did flush the upstairs toilet a couple of times, of course. The little furnace room shares a wall with the downstairs and there is some water on the furnace room floor again now.

got the dehumidifier running and the stairs blocked off so the cats dont go down there. Waiting for the water to recede and then will head in with bleach, mop, gloves, and whatnot to clean up. Yay. The landlord is gonna be thrilled. At least the whole floor downstairs is big, slate tile. Cant say much about potential drywall damage till its all cleaned up and dry.

(120,819 posts)I went through a streak like that last winter - it seemed like almost everything broke. First my oven caught fire, had to call the fire department; my washer started leaking and it couldn't be repaired without completely dismantling it, which would have cost almost as much as a new one, so I got a new one, plus the matching stacked dryer because the old one wasn't compatible and probably would have failed soon anyhow; but when they delivered the new washer that one didn't work either because it had some defective parts, and they were unable to get the new parts so after another month they delivered another new one, and then the stove hood stopped working and the one they delivered was all dented, so I had to wait for another one of those, too; then my sewer drain backed up, had to call Roto-Rooter and then have the basement cleaned, then my internet and cable tv stopped working; Comcast showed up to fix the cable connection and he discovered water was leaking onto my electrical circuit box, so I had to call a plumber to fix the leak under the sink.
I feel your pain.
