Yikes! What A Day

I got called to sub 6, 7, 8 math for 2 days at a smallish school I've been to many times before.
I get there and as I just get done going over the plans, the principal comes in to start changing them.
Why?
Last Wednesday evening, the math teacher emailed the principal and resigned effective immediately.
They've had 4 different subs on 4 straight days (5 counting me) & two of them aren't comfortable teaching math.
So, the plans didn't get completed, half the kids are 2 or 3 days behind, another 25% at least a day.
I'm passing back assignments & quizzes with bad grades, then spending time on 8 or 9 kids each class, that are correcting mistakes by going over the problems with them.
Kids going to the grading system so I can tell them what they need on this quiz to maintain the grade....
Then, the smart kids who haven't fallen behind have NOTHING to do, so I have to monitor them so they don't get bored & then disruptive.
Another teacher told my name came up in ladt Thursday's staff meeting but the principal said to not even bother calling me because there's no way he'll do 8 or 12 weeks. The teacher I was talking to said he agreed during the meeting. I told him he wasn't wrong!
Guy just up & quit with an email & created chaos.

never subbed as it was it was more work--no sub work and less pay. Follow your heart and make the best decision for you and your family. Also you have to figure that you will get less on Medicare and SS if you are on it.

There is a 0.0% chance I'm doing a long term assignment.
This is as much a hobby as anything else.
I sub 50-60 days a year & that amounts to 3% of our income. We don't need the money. Because of that, we're already on a high Medicare tier. We'd have to nearly double our income to hit the next tier. So, that's not a concern.
SS is not an issue as I'm beyond my personal full retirement age. My "ticket to work" was fulfilled over a year ago.
And, with all that there is still no way I would do it.
They did find someone who agreed to stay at least through January.

maybe once or twice a weeK and I am glad they have someone that will teach until January. People think it is easy. but it is not. I would check on your SS again because I was pretty sure there was a cut off amount you were allowed to reach. the percetage. Glad it worked out for you

When you take SS early there is a limit, after which you have to give back $1 for every $2 over the limit.
But, starting the month that would be the full retirement age, the limit disappears.
I know about the former because my first year of retirement I got my 28 days of vacation as pay (can't take vacation when you're retired) & my final bonus.
Those 2 sums was nearly $16,000 above my limit, so they wanted $8,000 back.
But, those blocks of money were actually EARNED while I wasn't on SS. I just didn't get the money until I was. So, the didn't count.
Then, when I hit full retirement age, I got a letter from them saying that I've passed the point at which there's a limit.
I could take a consulting job and make a hundred grand and pay no penalty
I'm not doing that either.
