Leaving the country, becoming expats

My husband and I are retired (me a month ago). We live on social security augmented by small pensions.

We have considered Portugal, Ireland, Spain, and the south of France.

Are there any expats on the board who can advise us?

But do your due diligence first- healthcare, cost of living, taxes, political stability, environmental issues ( much of Spain is flooded right now), etc.

We came to Canada 12 years ago, and love it here, but if you’re over 50, it can be tough to get a PR visa unless you’re sponsored by an adult child or possibly a sibling.

Get a trustworthy immigration lawyer in your destination country who can help you navigate the system.

there was a tax advantage to moving there from here but I understand that is ending soon, housing prices there have skyrocketed, and it just isn't viable.

Thinking of Spain.

I'm not in a position to leave myself. But I hop DFW sees this - he is very knowledgeable and could probably give uyou information you won't find anywhere else. One thing he would tell you is that voting can be a chalenge, and I can back that up with this:

I saved the link to make it an OP but haven't gotten around to it yet. I probably should.
