What WOULD you have named your cat or dog if you had known them better?

My dog would have either been named "Limbo" for the way she stalks squirrels, or "Mario" for her joyful leap, but I felt the need need to name her before we had her for a week.

So, I kept it. But, I can remember my parents loving an old Vaudeville singer who was apparently "quite the card" with a bit of a comical and risque presentation--and in older years appeared on Ed Sullivan's old show. Her name was "Sophie Tucker" and my girl was already showing a bit of independent "orneriness" so, I thought it could fit.

From birth to age 18 a girl needs good parents. From 18 to 35 she needs good looks. From 35 to 55 she needs a good personality. From 55 on, she needs good cash.

at the pet store his name was Captain Morgan. Years later, when I found out the real pirate Captain Morgan was a slave holder when he retired, I renamed my cat Captain Hughey after the grandfather I never knew. I think I will start calling him Bug. I like that name. Plus he is a pest when he decides I will feed him, oh yes I will.

My dad wanted me to name our dog after him.

But when we met the dog his name was Spanish Mailo (pronounced Mylo in English).

We loved that name so we kept it. But being a rescue dog he didn’t really know he had a name so in retrospect we could have easily changed it to Louie.

He is an America Cocker Spaniel and my wife named him. She decided his name should be...JEEP! But she didn't name him after the famous vehicle from WWII or our owning two actual Jeep vehicles. She named him after the Popeye Jeep character from the 1930's comics and cartoons. Jeep is indeed our "magical creature". He was a huge emotional comfort to her during the later stages of the former guys admin. And after last Tuesday, he is an emotional being for us both. He is a loving pup and wants to always be in physical contact with either my wife or myself. We love him to pieces.

I named one kitten - the last of four born to the cat next door who had been run over, and barely weaned - Don Jose because the opera Carmen was on the TV that night, and the way he tore up my hands was very like the way Don Jose treated Carmen. But it quickly became DJ and was easy to change to Don Juan when he socialized into a lover.

If one name's not appropriate you find another.

Don't mess with Firestorm.

That was not her original name.

I've been boringly hunter since birth.
