The 1981 BMW x Kith M1 E26 by Ronnie Fieg

Kith and BMW reunite for the third chapter of their ongoing partnership to create a multifaceted experience and collection that bridges BMW’s past and present through the Kith lens.

For this third chapter, Ronnie Fieg has designed a bespoke version of the first-ever model created by BMW M—the M1. Using a 1981 BMW M1 E26 as the base, Fieg & BMW rebuilt the car by sourcing original components from various BMW archives. He chose one of the brand’s rarest and most premium colors—Techno Violet.

The exterior of the car is painted in Techno Violet and features a collaborative Kith M-Series badge on the rear decklid. The interior is crafted from BMW Individual Black Merino Leather, which bears an all-over Kith monogram pattern. This pattern is featured on the middle panels and headrests of both seats, the gear shift, door inserts, and floor mats.

The performance capabilities of the M1 engine remain evident today. The 6-cylinder in-line petrol engine in the road version delivers 277 HP and generates a maximum torque of 330 Nm. It draws this power from 3.5 liters of displacement. Its four valves per cylinder, paired with mechanical injection, were far ahead of their time, while its impressive top speed of around 165 mph made the BMW M1 the fastest German road sports car of the era.

The 1981 BMW M1 E26 by Ronnie Fieg will be on display at the Kith for BMW Showcase in Miami on December 6th, alongside Ronnie Fieg’s personal collection of custom BMWs. Stay tuned for more information.
