in my house that I have never seen before!
Just this week I found a pair of underwear size 6 tucked in the back corner of my underwear drawer. My fat butt has never worn a 6, and neither of my housemates have worn a 6 since we were kids. So where did it come from? How long has it been there?
A coffee cup magically appeared on the shelf sitting there like it had always been there, but I haven't seen that cup in 20 years, if you would have asked me where it was I would speculate in a box of old cups in the attic.
I've found cookware in cabinets that I have never seen before. I think I have fallen into the upside down. There's more that I just can't recall right at this minute.
Does this happen in anyone else's world?

(4,879 posts)but you may have solved a mystery older than the sphinx: where did that sock go?
It seems clear that you are living in a vortex where all lost things show up. I'd like to get a request in early, before the world learns about you: If you see that little pearl earring I lost at the beauty parlor, would you let me know?
Just think: somewhere on this planet, someone is looking for her favorite pair of underpants...
You beat me! But I have a 3rd puzzle.
In my house, I set 1 piece of a pair aside, in case I come across the other part. Never see either again.

(919 posts)One day when the light was just right I looked down at the floor in front of the washing machine and there were 2 little foot prints in the cement and it said Linda '54. I can't believe how long it took us to notice that.

(2,342 posts)I found a penny on my desk that might be erroneously stamped and worth something last week.
My dead partner has been leaving me money to find for twenty years, so I just assumed that was a message from her.
The underwear was cute and seemed to be brand new. Maybe my size 8 ended up in the drawer of some skinny-butted young'un and she can grow into them!

(60,138 posts)More often, things seem to evaporate into the ether, jewelry, pictures, etc.(with no visitors to my home). Used to happen in home I grew up in as well.
I guess someone else needs them more than I do. Lol.

it's usually because the cat has hidden them. I figure that they will turn up again, either when she relocates them to a more visible place, or when I do a more thorough seasonal cleaning and move more things around than usual.
She's not as fixated on shiny things as when she was a kitten. But there is still a favorite earring missing. Ironically, it is a dangling earring of a silver cat. Ember might have put it into a shoe, maybe an old pair that I hardly wear any more. I suspect her as the culprit because one day I caught her pulling open a drawer of my jewelry box.
Her favorite hiding spot used to be under an area rug. I'd discover lost articles when I was vacuuming. Then it changed to under the couch, lined up in a row like a secret treasure to gloat over.
Now she has several different spots to keep me on my toes, I guess.

(60,138 posts)Twice at my parents' home -- in my old bedroom -- very large topaz teardrop necklaces set in silver (one replaced the first that disappeared!) absolutely vanished. Nobody had been in the room...
Some old union lapel pins from my dad's work history, some pix of him in the CC camp back in the day and a grad pix of my grandson graduating preschool all have vanished.
Cripes...
Oh well...

(19,297 posts)1. Is someone playing tricks?
2. Are you practicing materializing things? When the kids were growing up, if we were looking for something, and then we found it, we'd joke that we materialized it.
3. Got any wild critters who might be leaving you gifts? Birds or squirrels sometimes leave gifts in the yard for me, like stones or bits of jewelry. A cook book is kind of big, though.
4. Have you ever read The Borrowers?

(2,342 posts)or practices that religion except to call on and expect St. Anthony to find things that are lost. He always comes through!! We just don't think a lot about the cognitive disconnect of involving a saint in our business. It's just his job.

(2,342 posts)a puppy piddle pad on the desk next to my computer. Both of the dogs in the household are adults, and only one has 'accidents' in the house. His momma swears she didn't put it there.
Now that one may be a case of her failing memory, but it is in an odd place that no one but me goes.

(93,316 posts)But I can't find things sometimes. Currently, I have been looking for my box of coloring pencils and paint pencils, not a small item. I can't imagine that I took it to my storage unit but I'll look there later today. It's making me crazy, I have greeting cards to color in and I can;t find the coloring tools, not for the last week.

(2,342 posts)Not likely.
They both tend to lose things, and then blame each other for misplacing them.
Maybe their missing items are magically turning into my found items?
That's getting a little too freaky for me.

(24,704 posts)was a Mexican centavo dated 1880 something. I don't remember the exact date.
This was in my parents' house in my teens. We were in the process of moving to a new house and cleaning out the kitchen cupboards. Since we had lived in that house since I was a year old, the cupboards had been cleaned many times but nobody noticed it before. It was embedded in a joint of wood where a shelf met the wood backing.
My parents bought that house in 1950. Neither of them or our relatives had been to Mexico.
They bought the house from a Hungarian immigrant woman who had lived there for about 30 years. She was a family friend, and as far as I know, it was unlikely that she or her husband had been to Mexico.
The house was built around 1900.
Maybe one of the construction workers who installed the cabinets was Mexican and dropped the centavo while working?

(2,342 posts)I had to re-do a bathroom in my house which was constructed in the 70's, and inside the wall was an empty Miller's can from that era. Somebody was tippling on the construction job.

(12,988 posts)And it's located somewhere in your house. Tell us if it's getting bigger. Right now your reality is scraping only the most adjacent universes so the differences are subtle. If instead of expanding, the wrinkle becomes more twisted, you'll have encounters with more distant universes, like the ones with unicorns and elves.
Or you have a cat.

(16,596 posts)in the course of those 5 years I've seen shadow people walk from the bedroom to the bathroom, there's been a black shadow dog that used to come up to my recliner at night and sit on the floor in front of it,(haven't seen that dog for a while-), both my wife and I have had an invisible dog climb into our bed and sleep at night. Wife thought I was crazy until it laid across her legs and she couldn't move them, Same shadow dog has laid on my legs and I could feel it relax the way a dog will prior to going into deep sleep. If you have a dog you know all those feelings.
But last night we went to bed about 930 and snuggled in, all lights off. At 236 in the morning the light in the ceiling fan went on and it woke me. I got out of bed, took the remote off the dresser and turned the light off. No other happenings the rest of the night.
Presently my wife is undergoing cancer treatments and I don't pose them as being the cause of any of these happenings but I do wonder what will happen in the near future. I just think it's weird.
For those opening walls in older houses, don't reach into the cavities before checking for razor blades behind the medicine cabinets.
