The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust bought a bottle of Olympia Vodka. Produced at the same facility that used to brew Olympia beer.
I've been trying out local spirits in order to keep my booze money in the community. That's why I've kept my bourbon purchases to Woodinville. (Plus, they produce a wonderful bourbon! ) Now to try a local vodka.
Olympia vodka is pretty strong when ice-cold. Once it has warmed up just a bit, it's tangy, and a little peppery. I like it. As much as I want to fund Ukrainian distilleries, and continue to sample Finnish, Norwegian, Polish, and French vodkas, keeping it close to home in my wonderful Blue state is an important consideration in these difficult times.
Hope you will join me for my Friday night drinking thread in the Lounge tonight...

(68,589 posts)I miss the TV ads for Olympia. "It's the water......and a lot more......"
Artesian well-water. Had everybody asking what the hell an artesian was.
My Dad took me and my brother to tour the brewery once when we were kids. We couldn't sample the beer at the end of the tour, of course. But the brewery maintained a water fountain that provided the same artesian well water they used to brew the beer. It bubbled up from a shiny copper fountain, and tasted delicious.

(5,793 posts)try out Westland American whiskey. It's a single malt, and it's surprisingly good. For obvious reasons, they can't call it Scotch, but it will hold its own with many of them.

(5,591 posts)It came in a cardboard box you'd fill with ice to keep the beer cold. You'd keep the plastic tap to use again later.
Best part was that it was cheap, with no keg deposit, and it was easy to transport.
Bad part was it was Olympia beer.
