(14,624 posts)homemade variety I make this week. I'm a fan of bread made in the dutch oven and I like easy varieties, so I'll say some kind of rustic Italian for now.

(39,301 posts)After getting used to that thickness, any other bread is just too much. And heaven help me, I don't like any of that whole wheat/whole grain/blah blah blah "healthy" stuff. The taste is off-putting.
My very favorite was my dad's homemade bread. Sadly, I didn't inherit the gene. I tried making cinnamon rolls one time, but the NHL called and wanted them so they could use them for hockey pucks.

(458 posts)My favorite sandwich bread is from Lewis Bakeries. They make various breads in what they call Half Loaf. It is what it sounds - half the size of a regular loaf of bread. My favorite from this company is called Nutty Oat bread. It has little chips of nuts. Delicious. Not all of the grocery stores I frequent carry this brand.
On my trip to the grocery a couple days ago they were out. Empty shelf where half loaf Nutty Oat bread should be. Oh no! I only have a few slices left. I am so disappointed. I resolved that I need to stock up the next time, buy 4 or 5 loaves and put some in the freezer.

(510 posts)Made from scratch, never sees a biscuit cutter. Baked in a greased cake pan with sides touching. Crusty outside, fluffy inside. The biscuit to use with sausage gravy! Also good with chicken gravy, or with butter and jelly or butter and syrup. The bread to use for breakfast sammiches, and can also be used as dinner rolls.

(599 posts)Pepperidge Farms Deli Swirl Rye Bread is what I usually get. It is an excellent bread. Another bread that is "Top Shelf" is 12 grain at Aldis. This is a nice heavier bread that is ideal for honey, peanut butter, or jams. Old fashioned real bread. But my all-time Favorite is the buck-a-loaf Italian Bread that Walmart sells. The expiration date is only a day or two out, but it is great out of the wrapper or toasted with a bit of butter. The only problem is that it is Very Easy to make a Pig of Yourself and eat way too many slices.

(1,365 posts)But kidding aside, I like whole wheat bread. There were two types of bread I liked in Germany. One was sweet bread in which the bread was rolled into two long lengths and then twisted together. The other is Hunsrück bread which is a local type of bread made in the Rhineland-Palatinate area of Germany. It's a round, black, coarse bread and it's delicious.

And a Rustic Country White, or Dark Pumpernickel for grilled cheese!
