The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsA HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL MY DU FAMILY (last pre-op update)
Dear DU Family
It's less than 20 hours to check-in time for my surgery tomorrow. I try to fight my emotions with bad humor sometimes so here goes: *Dallas tv show theme in background* This will be the season one finale with
"Who's saved JM?"
(suspects: Grace of God, Dr. Mohammad Masood, or All of the above)
I really hope you get the spirit in which I wrote it because up until this idea, I couldn't get to word one without crying.. Pure anxiety induced coping humor.
I've put this off for two days now I wish I had two more lol.
Please know that I write this fully expecting to post sometime in the next couple of weeks (debm55 has very graciously volunteered to do my talking for me until I can sit and type.)
Knowing or feeling that doesn't alleviate me of my need to thank every one of you for accompanying me on this incredibly scary, and it turns out, very enlightening journey that we are about to reach a major stop-over point on.
As we complete this leg of our journey, I need to thank you for showing me so much beauty, for making the Sun come out and share its warmth every single day. Thank you for pointing out all the souls that really are on this very journey at their proper stop-over too and waving me on with the kind of encouragement that only they can offer.
I want to thank you who've taken this journey as a guide for others dear to you, thank you for sharing what you learned.
I want to thank those of you who were called to give, called to reach out knowing that being alone right now can be unbearable, thank you for answering that call.
I want to thank all the Spirits/Angels out there, sending healing and comforting energy that I am impacted by multiple times a day! I can't begin to describe how you've helped me see, feel and experience in healthier ways.
I want to thank you, all of you for being God at times as I imagine Footprints In The Sand. I know now, it was you who carried me all those times where I could only see one set. Thank you you Good Samaritan, for stopping to help.
The only DU member that I will name in this post is debm55 because to try otherwise would result in epic failures of memory to include..... .
I mention Debbie again as she has volunteered to post updates on her feed until I can type.
I am listing my GoFundMe donor link in the hope that we can reach the finish line and get me through May with the hope that Social Security will have made its damn mind up by then.

Tori Amos is credited with saying "Healing takes courage, and we all have courage, even if we have to dig a little to find it.".
I can't find a better statement that defines me right now. I look forward to finding and using that courage.
If these are the last words I type, please know there's no group I'd rather say this kind of farewell to than you.
See you next week!
From a heart filled with love and gratitude,
I love you all,
John Mckusick
Edit addition
Please forgive me if I don't respond quickly. It might take a week or two, but please know you are all with me in a heart filled with immense gratitude.

(6,840 posts)Take deep belly breaths into your fear. Repeat the mantra I am strong. I am safe. I am light. Ask your ancestors and your higher angels to protect, guide and heal your earthly body. Give them gratitude for watching over you.
Many prayers and meditations for your healing and full recovery 🙏🏼 💚

(31,337 posts)I'm 72 and I know that, while in relatively good health today, that can change in a flash. Had one scare requiring surgery last year and I get annual CAT scans on my lungs.
I try to appreciate every day and that's not easy now when you factor our present macro-reality.
Keep a positive attitude.
