(55,859 posts)Friends had a decent theme song, but otherwise it seemed every episode was ok, who's going to be clownishly stupid in this one, and how are the rest of them going to make fun of them for it.
No great insights or social commentary, I thought.
Seinfeld was fascinating in its observational humor about everyday life. I found a lot of its topics very relatable.

I have never seen Friends. Not once. Seinfeld was funny.

(55,859 posts)Should never have gotten picked up after that horrendously stupid and bigoted pilot episode about a birth certificate.

(29,422 posts)I never watched an episode during its run, but my granddaughter just lurves that show, so Ive gotten some exposure just from walking through the room. Insipid and preposterous in my estimation.

(1,230 posts)The first 5 seasons were good, but I stopped watching when Drew Carey revived Whose Line in the late 90s.

(490 posts)Yes, GOT. Very good but still overrated.
And SNL? Always uneven.

(55,859 posts)In the sense that I've never heard anyone say it was always great. Everyone always acknowledged that the skits and musical acts were hit or miss, most skits went on a couple minutes too long, there was rarely anything good after weekend update, and a lot of the recurring characters succeeded mostly on mere familiarity.
Scripted enough to take away the spontaneity and creativity of improv, but put together so hastily you still had all the sloppiness.
But weekend update was pretty reliably funny, and there were usually enough funny bits to have something to talk about at work on mondays.
I think most fans accepted it for what it was. A mediocre show that was just a comfortable way to get a few chuckles on Saturday night.

(11,741 posts)Its like the writers never had any long term vision for the show. They wrote themselves into corners, and had to come up with preposterous solutions. Bring back the dead. Go back in time. Move the whole damn island.
The critics loved it, but I thought it was self indulgent nonsense.
The buildup they had for opening the safe of Al Capone.

(29,078 posts)I tried to like it.
But, just too gross and mean-spirited for me.
I do love one of Harmon's other shows: Krapopolis.

(6,413 posts)Maybe I made the mistake of not seeing both when I was nine (I was well past that age when both debuted). But apparently if you see them at that age you spend the rest of your life prattling on and on about them.

I kept saying "He couldn't do that with his hardware."
So, the whole premise of the show was blown for me.

(38,576 posts)I agree with Elaine on "Seinfeld." It sucked. It just annoyed the heck outta me, I don't know why. But then again, I hated "Forrest Gump" too, so maybe I'm bad at movies.
