Hi all,
just fyi I'm new here and this is my first attempt at a post. Nice to meet you. Still learning my way around but here goes. Please forgive if this topic has already been discussed. Thanks.
I was curious about actual numbers of workers affected and where they worked and searched around the web trying to get answers and found this:
Government employees represent less than 2% of the US work force so is it worth taking a look at the big picture facts and insanity of targeting this tiny minority of workers and making them the symbol of all that is wrong with the country instead of finding and rooting out the corrupt or ineffectual? Loaded question I know. Here's a great collection of graphics with details of job/ employment trends since 1939 plus breakdown of the work sectors and also specific percentages of jobs in government itself as well as by state. Facts are good when you can find them. Maybe understanding them can help open peoples' minds and improve decisions made.

IMHO: The govt workforce is a relative minority taking care of many. Attacks are strategic. Not every worker is perfect or good but most likely a majority are. My respect to anyone who has given their life and livelihoods to defend this country in good faith. They do not deserve to be abandoned.
