School Assembly Today

Subbed at a school with a predominantly black student body.
So, they had an assembly today for Black History Month.
Music teacher sand "Lift Every Voice"
Interspersed, they had 8th graders reciting quotes from famous black Americans. I recognized one as being Frederick Douglass.
The end was teachers in costume honoring the black fashion & music of the different decades. Thwt ended with a Soul Train "tunnel" and they brought kids from the audience to extend the tunnel & dance through it. Was fun.
But, the highlight was a representation of a tribal celebration dance to a southern African hymn. The kicker is that the dancers were the first graders! It was awesomely cute. And, these kids were rehearsed & into it! That alone was worth sitting through it!
Whole day was good, but the assembly was a nice capper.
