The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWould you want to live here?
There will be no link with this one, but I saw it and had to post because it's so unique. I frequent a website that highlights unusual real estate listings. I used to put some of them here in the Lounge with a link to the listing so people could see all the photos, but somebody flagged it as commercial spam and, to my surprise, a jury saw fit to remove the last post of that sort I placed here.
So I won't tempt fate. I just want to make it clear that I have no connection whatsoever to this property, other than a passing interest, as I'm sure others here will have. It's quite a curiosity.
This one is found in Reedville, VA. You can find it and the price (I won't even take a chance of posting that) via a Google search. I realize a good number of DUers could no longer practically live in a place like this, but would it have appealed to you at any point in your life?

(24,776 posts)I live at the top of a 30 ft hill across from the St. Johns, so safe from the winds and have no big trees on the property so feel safe. We sold our old house to my sister, and it has a huge dying oak tree very close to her house and it's in a bunch of wires so very expensive to cut down. We'll end up splitting the cost with her, but hoping we can make it through one more year to recover financially from our moves before ponying up another big chunk of $$.
I could never have been comfortable there for any period of time - too dangerous for me. Didn't buy a house in Key West years ago because of the danger of storms there and so glad we didn't!!

(20,199 posts)Saw this one a few weeks ago. We'd live there, though we've always had a bit of a hermit streak. It's only gotten stronger given our recent, political unpleasantness.

(23,417 posts)In the Chesapeake Bay, there’s a lighthouse near Annapolis that is rented as an Airbnb, I think. It would be a fun vacation if you don’t mind the isolation. I’m reminded of The Shining!
Full time living, no thanks.
Great pictures. Thanks.

(8,815 posts)I have always wanted to live in a lighthouse; just one on land, not out in the water. Too old now, though. Couldn't handle the stairs.

(72,149 posts)My wife wouldn't want to either. So, there'd never be any conflict over a decision.
I understand why some would be attracted to it.
But, it's definitely not for me.

(10,414 posts)I'm wondering about some sort of pulley system for groceries and appliance/furniture replacements.
Also, I'm wondering about sanitation disposal.

(18,321 posts)Maybe it has some sort of septic tank that has to be periodically emptied. Where does the fresh water come from?
Eta - it's really overpriced, I think it's worth maybe 200k buy I would take 150.

(36,647 posts)I remember one storm as a kid in 1967 we had so much snow schools were closed for 2 weeks, in large part because of Lake Effect enhancing the storm. The snowdrifts were so big that our plows kept getting stuck so they brought in snow removal equipment from Canada. There was still snow on north-facing culverts on my birthday which is June 20. We kids all thought it was awesome until we had to stay in school until the third week in June to make up for the time lost during the blizzard, lol.
But still better than hurricanes, for sure.

There's a book on lighthouses next to me, and I borrowed one about cabooses just a few weeks back.
